Come, Lord Jesus
Prayer
According to Peter (2 Peter 3:8-12) the Day of the Lord will come
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise
We need to remember the Day of the Lord is not like one of our days of 24 hours
The Day of the Lord is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like one day
You and I have seen 2020 full of trouble long days
That seemed as if they would never end
Yet, looking back over this last year
It is hard to believe so much has happened in just one year
The Lord’s coming is a space in time and that time has to fulfill His promises
It is important for us to do our part, to pray
Pray for His Kingdom to come in earth as it is in Heaven
To pray for the Peace of Jerusalem
Our prayers should reveal a deep longing for His return with a New Heavens
And New Earth where He will rule for all eternity
If you are like me, your prayers are focused on the daily provisions of today
And God answers those prayers
But let’s not forget the bigger picture
A cry for Jesus Christ to return
Like John, who saw and revealed to us in the Book of Revelation
The glory of His coming and prayed
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus
Prayer
John closes the Book of Revelation with
these words of Christ, than a prayer…
He who testifies to these things says,
“Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Revelation 22:20
John seeing the revelation of Jesus,
cries out in a short but powerful prayer…
“Amen”…
So be everything Jesus has said and revealed.
But the “Amen” is not at the end
of the prayer, John goes on to say…
Come, Lord Jesus
Imagine being John full of excitement,
full of the desire to see Jesus
come ushering in His Kingdom.
Could John be saying more than he is in
agreement and support of Jesus’ coming?
Could John be saying…
“Come” in a way that pleads for Jesus
to come quickly, to “come” sooner?
Maybe so, if we connect John’s prayer with
the prayer Jesus encourages us to pray…
We pray all the time for the manifestation of
God’s Kingdom to come in our daily lives.
For the provisions of Heaven to
be manifested in our daily lives.
Like when we are sick…
We pray for health.
Or, when we have bills to pay…
We pray for the riches of heaven.
When we see unrighteousness…
We pray for justice.
But could Jesus be encouraging us
to pray for more than our daily needs?
Could these daily provisions we ask for
be to open our eyes to the bigger picture?
The Coming of the Lord…
This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:9-10
Could prayer be a key to fulfilling one
of the requirements for Christ’s return?
Look at Psalms 122 and what bearing
verse 6 plays on Christ’s return…
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels.”
8 For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God,
I will seek your prosperity.
Pray for what?
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
We know true peace will not come
until the “Prince of Peace” comes…
The Messiah to set up the Messianic Kingdom.
The New Jerusalem which
will come down from heaven.
Revelation 21:2
We are not the first generation to
long to see the appearing of Christ.
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—
and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:8
