Thinking
Your Brain Needs a Helmet
All it takes is a
thought to change our mood
One thought true or
false can alter your life
It can all happen as
quickly as a bullet on the battlefield
Just like a soldier
wears a helmet to protect his head and brain
We need to wear a
helmet to protect our mind
How do you guard your
heart (thoughts)?
With God’s Word and Prayer
How often?
With every thought,
all the time
If we guard our minds
or thinking with God’s Word and Prayer all the time
The rest of the body
will benefit
Your life, who you
are and your future will never be defeated
Your Brain Needs a Helmet
The human body is amazing.
When every part is healthy
we can do amazing things.
But when one of our body members
suffers the whole body feels the effect.
Out of all the parts of the body there is one
part that is more important than the rest.
That part is the brain.
Although the heart and lungs can
continue without the brain the
mechanical operation will not last long.
The brain is more than mechanical
like the CPU of a computer.
It does more than store data or knowledge.
It does more then sends signals to
parts of the body, creating movement.
The brain is where we
think and feel.
The brain sends messages that are
subconscience and conscience.
The brain is very vulnerable and that is why God
designed it to sit inside the hard shell of the skull.
It also has been designed with
fluids to work as shock absorbers.
God has not only made the
Brain, but made protection for it.
Because without the brain we are dead even
though the heart can beat, hair and fingernails
can grow, but life comes from the brain.
Proverbs 4:23 tells us…
Above all else, guard
your heart,
for it is the
wellspring of life. NIV
Guard your heart…
This is not talking
about the
thing beating in your chest.
And it is not talking about the brain as
an organ, but the function of the brain.
Thinking, look at the same verse in
the TEV version of the Bible…
Be careful how you
think;
your life is shaped by
your thoughts. TEV
Guard your heart /
Be careful how you think
Why are we to do this above
all else?
Because…
It is the wellspring
of life NIV
Your life is shaped by
your thoughts. TEV
You are what you think.
Our thoughts are developed
from knowledge we receive.
You and I face battles in the mind.
All it takes is a thought to change our mood.
One thought true or false can alter your life.
It can all happen as quickly
as a bullet on the battlefield.
Just like a soldier wears a helmet
to protect his head and brain…
We need to wear a helmet to protect our mind.
Just like physical trauma to the brain can alter
your ability to think, so can words and actions.
Your life is shaped by
your thoughts.
So…
Above all else, guard
your heart, your thoughts.
Ephesians 6:17 says…
Take the helmet of
salvation and the sword
of the Spirit, which
is the Word of God.
Take the helmet…
What is this helmet?
The helmet of “Salvation”.
The Greek word for “Salvation”
means defender or
defense.
Both words Helmet and Salvation
are both saying the same thing.
The helmet describes the encirclement
of the head with a protective device and
salvation is a defender or a defense.
The picture so far gives us a vision
of the protection of the head.
But what is the protection?
I think we have to read the rest of the verse…
And the Sword of the Spirit,
which is the Word of God.
What protects us is the “Word of God”.
Which is linked or described
as the “Sword of the
Spirit”.
It is the Sword of the Spirit, the Word
of God, that gives us the understanding
of the Helmet of Salvation.
The helmet and the sword are protective
devices and it is the Word of
God that empowers them both.
The point is this…
The protection of our thoughts,
our minds, is the
Word of God.
Look at Hebrews 4:12…
For the word of God is
living and active.
Sharper than any
double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to
dividing soul and
spirit, joints and
marrow; it judges
the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
The Word of God is living and active…
penetrates even to
dividing soul and spirit,…
it judges the thoughts
and attitudes of the heart.
It is so hard to define the difference
between the soul and the spirit.
It is so hard to define the difference between
the thoughts and attitudes in our brain.
But the Word of God has the
ability to judge and separate.
So…
Be careful how you
think; your
life is shaped by your thoughts.
We need the Word of God as a helmet keeping
outside sources away from our thoughts.
We need God’s Word in our thoughts
dividing the differences in our minds.
Verse 18 of Hebrews 6 cannot
be separated from verse 17…
And pray in the Spirit
on all occasions
with all kinds of
prayers and requests.
With this in mind, be
alert and always
keep on praying for
all the saints.
“Pray”
How do we pray?
“In the Spirit”
“On all occasions”
“With all kinds of
prayers and request”
Our prayer life should be full of variety.
Anyway you know how to talk to God, do it…
On your knees, with your hands lifted.
When all you have is requests and needs.
When you are happy and when you are sad.
Maybe the best way to say it is…
Let every thought be
a prayer to God.
Let every Word of God you read
or hear be a thought of prayer.
Another scripture says it this way…
“Pray without ceasing”
Every thought of ours should be a prayer.
Sometimes you will speak those thoughts out
loud and other times silently in your spirit.
How do you guard your heart (thoughts)?
With God’s Word and Prayer.
How often?
With every thought, all the time.
If we guard our minds or thinking with
God’s Word and Prayer
all the time…
The rest of the body will benefit.
Your life, who you are and your
future will never be defeated.
Be careful how you
think; your
life is shaped by your thoughts
