How to Pray
On Earth as it is in Heaven
When we pray
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
We are not just
running to a safe and wonderful place
We are joining ranks
to see the glory of the Father and His Kingdom overlap earth
As we pray we see
heaven not just as a place
Where we will spend
eternity, “Eternal Life”
But where we live in
earth as a place of abundant life
As we submit to the
Father’s authority and will
On Earth as it is in
Heaven
What is the picture of heaven?
I am sure you have a picture.
It is Jesus who is telling us
to pray “as it is in
heaven”.
What is Jesus picturing when
He is asking us to pray this way.
In atleast 19 times Jesus is recorded
saying “Father in
Heaven”.
The first thing we should see about Heaven
is it is the dwelling place of God the Father.
Jesus reveals His Father is also…
“Our Father in
heaven”
Heaven is the domain of Our
Father.
In Luke 10:21 and Matthew 11:25, 26, Jesus says…
I praise you, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth
Heaven and earth are ruled by the
supreme authority of the Father.
Much of what Jesus tells us about
heaven comes in parables.
But in Luke 21 and Matthew 11,
we see heaven and earth overlapping
and Jesus gives thanks to the Father…
Because you have
hidden these things from the
wise and learned, and revealed them to little
children.
Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
In the account of Matthew, Jesus says…
Among those born of
women there has not risen anyone greater than John
the Baptist; yet he
who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
From the days of John
the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven
has been forcefully
advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.
Matthew
11:11-13
In these verses Jesus
gives us a picture of heaven.
It is the dwelling place of the Father…
“Father in Heaven”
Heaven is the dominion of the Father…
“Father, Lord of heaven and earth”
It is the Father’s delight to reveal heaven,
His Kingdom to His
children…
“You have hidden these things from the wise and learned,
and revealed them to little children.
Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.”
Jesus also tells us there has been, and
still is, resistances to the Father’s authority.
“The Kingdom of Heaven
has been forcefully advancing,
and forceful men lay
hold of it.”
When we pray…
