God the Father is
already Holy
So how do we make His
name holy?
If we can pray
without ceasing,
We can pray while
cleaning out dung in a pig’s pen
And we can pray with
our faces to the ground
So with such liberty
how do we make His name holy?
Don’t let your
freedom disrespect the Name of the Father
And do not let others
see you pray to a holy God
If you do not live
holy
Hallowed Be Your Name
The Word “hallowed” hagiazo (hag-ee-ad'-zo)
means
“to make holy” “purify
or consecrate, to venerate”
This word describes a process…
“To make”
Hagiazo comes from the word
hagios (hag'-ee-os) which means
“sacred (physically,
pure, morally blameless
or religious,
ceremonially, consecrated”
The root word describes what is.
Such as Jesus is sacred,
He is Holy.
But the word hallowed
means “to make holy”.
To make the name,
the Father’s Name, Holy.
So if the Father is Holy,
how do we make His
name holy?
I met a realtor in Florida and she
told me there was a saying…
“In the north a man will get up in the morning,
go to work, come home open the refrigerator
and grab a beer and sit on the couch.
In the Florida Keys,
a man will get up in
the morning,
go to the refrigerator and grab a beer, sit down
on the couch and may never get up to go to work”
She said there was a contractor she
hired who would not finish a job
she had hired him for.
She would call him
daily to see
when he was coming to finish the work,
but he would not answer the phone.
She said his answering machine said…
“Please leave a
message and
remember God loves you.”
This contractor who claims to be a follower of
God made God’s name unholy to this realtor.
God, the Father, still remained Holy,
but the Father’s name
was not made holy
but unholy by the contractor
who did not finish the job.
God, the Father, is Holy.
He cannot be any more
perfect and set apart from sin.
But we, who call upon God, the Father,
can tarnish His name by the
way we live and what we say.
When Jesus says we are to pray
“hallowed be Your name”…
He is reminding us to
respect and honor
the Father when we approach Him.
And to remember we are His children
who reveal who God, the Father, is.
I realize we have great liberty to enter into
God’s presences and make our requests known.
We can pray while cleaning out
a pig’s pen and God will hear us.
We don’t have to wash up first and get
the smell off or cover it up with cologne.
Every time we pray we do not have to
fall on our face, but we should remember…
Where ever we are at
or whatever position we are in,
we need to make sure we
are making His name Holy.
disrespect the Name of
the Father.
And do not let others
see you pray
to a Holy God, if you do
not live holy.
Scripture Reading
Matthew 6:9-13 NIV
9 "This, then, is how you should pray:
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.'
