Simple Faith
Rainy Day Fund
Life is full of
things we plan for and the unexpected
Sadly many of us do
not prepare for the unexpected
You may have heard
people or organizations say
They have a “Rainy
Day Fund” or a “War Chest”
If you don’t have a
rainy day fund or a war chest
You are going to have
a day you will need it and your sorrows will multiply
Life will not be so
simple as you struggle to get back on your feet
In the same way faith
is not simple if we are not prepared
So how do we prepare
Like breathing and
eating
Spend time in God’s
Word and pray daily
And when the rainy
day comes
God will bring to
your remembrance what you need
Rainy Day Fund
Life is full of things we plan for and the unexpected.
Sadly, many of us do not prepare for the unexpected.
You many have heard people or organizations say
they have a “Rainy Day Fund” or a “War Chest”.
they have a “Rainy Day Fund” or a “War Chest”.
The person who works outside realizes there
are days they can’t work because of rain…
No work - No pay
All of us will have battles to fight…
It may be the car
breaking down,
health issues and the doctor bills, etc.
If you don’t have a Rainy Day Fund or a War Chest
you are going to have a day you will need it
and your sorrows will multiply.
Life will not be so simple as you
struggle to get back on your feet.
In the same way faith is not
simple if we are not prepared.
So how do we prepare?
The Bible tells us faith
comes by hearing
and hearing by the Word
of God.
It is God’s Word that creates faith in us.
It is true that we must get a hold of faith but
the bigger reality is faith must get a hold of us.
God’s Word transforms our minds.
It renews our minds from the false understanding
we get from the environment around us.
God’s Word is called Bread.
Jesus said…
Man shall not live by bread alone but by
every word that
proceeds from the mouth of God.
Jesus said…
He is the Bread of Life.
He said to the disciples the night
He was betrayed about bread…
Take eat this is My body.
Jesus tells us to pray…
Give us this day our daily bread.
It is a simple thing to read God’s Word every day.
Each day does not have big revelation.
Some days it is like a light was turned on and
we know exactly how it will apply to our lives.
It is like an energy bar that gives us a boost.
Then there are days
it seems like
we are not sure of what we read.
It is like eating because we have to.
God’s Word gets stored in our mind and
when the rainy day comes or the battle flares up,
God’s Word comes back
to our remembrance.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, had this experience.
There were many things spoken
about her and the scriptures say…
“Mary treasured up all
these things
and pondered them in
her heart.”
Nothing could have prepared her for the
crucifixion of her son, but the words she
had stored in her heart had to be a big help.
Simple faith is like eating.
We do it without a lot of thought.
Simple faith takes in God’s Word every day.
When difficult times come we
find strength to handle that time.
But if we are undernourished or fat
from lack of use, you will find it hard
to get into God’s Word and find strength.
You will find it difficult to have faith.
Simple faith is when walking by faith is like
walking in your home, at work or in the store.
You don’t think about putting one foot
in front of the other, you do it naturally.
Simple faith is like breathing, you
do it all the time without a thought.
People who have simple faith don’t usually
think of themselves as being super spiritual.
It is natural to smile, to express love to others.
It is natural to speak encouraging words all the time.
It is natural to talk to God even if you
don’t feel like He is in the same room.
Too often we are looking for a big event
where our faith will shine someday.
Listen…We need sunshine every day.
The person with simple faith is that
shining light we take for granted.
Just think of what it would be like if we all put
a bushel basket over our light at the same time.
That day would be naturally dark.
Simple faith gives off light, like a
lit candle, the light just shines.
When the day you need a War Chest or the rains come…
The person who lives by simple faith each
day will have the reserve and not fear.
Scripture Reading
NIV
Romans 10:16-17
16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For
Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?" 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing
the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
Psalm 119:11
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Matthew 4:4
4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on
bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'
Matthew 6:11
