Simple Faith What Does the Lord Require?

Simple Faith
What Does the Lord Require?

What God wants is for us to naturally, just like breathing
Act justly and love mercy and walk humbly with your God
How hard is that?
It is that simple
Simple faith
Do the right things
Show mercy and compassion
Be humble
Don’t make faith complicated
Following Jesus is to be a joy not a burden

What Does the Lord Require?

Maybe the most disturbing questions we all face is…

What does the Lord require of me?

Do I know what God wants?

Am I doing what God wants me to do?

Maybe you are thinking of Jesus’ words
when He was asked…

What must I do to have eternal life?

 Jesus said…

"Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
Mark 10:21

Or, maybe when Jesus said…

"Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me ;… and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me .Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
Matthew 10:37-39

Jesus gave us some hard sayings.

So is it hard and difficult to
do what the Lord requires?

Some of us might think that what the
Lord required of Old Testament saints
was harder than us under the New.

That God required fulfilling the Law
before Christ and now we are under grace.

Micah 6 is a very familiar passage.

We find these famous words in verse 8…

“What does the LORD require of you?”

Before we look at the answer,
let’s look at the background.

Verve 3 says…

My people, what have I done to you?
How have I burdened you? Answer me.

Before we answer the question
of what God wants of us, we should
remember what God has done for us.

He has not done anything to hurt us.

He delivered the Children of Israel
out of Egypt and slavery.

He has sent Jesus to die for our sins.

God is not a burden to us, but a blessing.

Once we get this straight, we see a list of
things we might think God wants of us.

 Micah 6:6…

Lots of burnt offerings, rivers of oil,
maybe our first born is what God wants.

It is not the value of “Things”
or the Amount of things.

Some might think…

We don’t want to know what God wants
because He is a bad God and we fear Him.

Verse 8…

“He has showed you, O man, what is good.”

God has given us “Good”.

So what does the Lord require of us?

To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
Verse 8

To act… to love… to walk

We act, we love and we walk every day,
it is like breathing, we don’t even think about it.

What God wants is for us to
naturally, just like breathing…

Act justly and love mercy and
 walk humbly with your God.

How hard is that?

It is that simple.

Simple faith

Do the right things.

Show mercy and compassion.

Be humble.

Don’t make faith complicated.

Following Jesus is to be a joy not a burden.

Scripture Reading

Micah 6:3-8 NIV

3 "My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me. 4 I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam. 5 My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember [ your journey] from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD."
6 With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
