Swearing
Sign of Ungratefulness
Swearing may make you
feel better and even more powerful
But it does not give you the ability to change your situation for the better
But praise to God in your situation opens the door for you
to receive wisdom to change your situation
When we are truly grateful that Jesus Christ came
into the world not to condemn the world but to save it
We will seek words to save rather than condemn others or
things
Sign of Ungratefulness
Let there be no
filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt)
talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice
your thankfulness [to God]. Ephesians
5:4 AMP
filthiness (obscenity,
indecency). foolish,
sinful (silly and
corrupt) talk, coarse jesting
In what context do we hear these kinds of words?
Loose or unthoughtful talk and anger or frustration.
Loose and unthoughtful talk is
increasing at unbelievable speed.
In America, you have the freedom of speech.
With all the media devices we
have more ways to communicate.
Sadly, much of what we say is done
quickly and without much thought.
So the result is…
we speak for our
emotions.
We speak the things that make us feel good.
Or, use words that get us attention.
After all, with so much talk all around us we need
to say something shocking to get someone to listen.
There are groups whose main drive is to
remove censorship of offensive speech.
What they want is a world of Howard Stern.
We, as Americans, must remember that our
freedom of speech should not take away the
freedom of others through offensive and divisive speech.
As Christians, we should be wise with our
speech; there are words that are offensive.
Words that attack people rather than the issues.
Some think they must be shocking to be heard
while others choose being profound.
Shocking is a trait of bulling.
Where profound words help clarify the truth.
Loose or unthoughtful words do not
show gratitude for God’s wisdom.
It is loose and unthoughtful words
that fuel anger and frustration.
The words that come from anger and frustration,
come when our
emotions are negative…
Times when we feel hurt, or a sense of loss.
They come when we try to make light
of a situation so we joke about it.
All of these types of expressions come
as we feel powerless and ungrateful.
This scripture is
giving us two choices…
One, remain ungrateful, feeling powerless.
Or, two, be thankful to God because He has given
you everything you need for life and godliness.
Swearing may make you feel better and
even more powerful, but it does not give you the
ability to change your situation for the better.
But praise to God in your situation opens the door
for you to receive wisdom to change your situation.
When we are truly grateful that Jesus Christ came
into the world not to condemn the world but to save it…
We will seek words to save rather than condemn others.
Scripture
Reading
Ephesians 5:1-8 AMP
5:1 THEREFORE BE
imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children
[imitate their father].
2 And walk in love,
[esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself
up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a
sweet fragrance. [Ezekiel 20:41.]
3 But immorality
(sexual vice) and all impurity [of lustful, rich, wasteful living] or
greediness must not even be named among you, as is fitting and proper among
saints (God's consecrated people).
4 Let there be no
filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt)
talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice
your thankfulness [to God].
5 For be sure of this:
that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one
who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is
greedy for gain] — for he [in effect] is an idolater — has any inheritance in
the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no one delude and
deceive you with empty excuses and groundless arguments [for these sins], for
through these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion and
disobedience.
7 So do not associate
or be sharers with them.
8 For once you were
darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead
the lives of those native-born to the Light].
