Swearing Taming the Tongue

Swearing
Taming the Tongue

Our hearts are capable of great emotions
Both Good and Bad
Our tongue becomes the release of the heart
No man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father,
and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness.”

The tongue that produces righteousness is
pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive,
full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere

It may feel good to curse someone but remember
They are made in the likeness of God
It is not God’s will that any should perish
That is why Jesus came into the world to redeem it not condemn it
Taming the Tongue

I think all of us know how easy it is
for our tongue to get us into trouble.

One of the biggest reasons is our heart.

Deep in our emotions are troubling matters.

You and I cannot escape them.

If you like roses, it is more than likely
because of their color and fragrance.

But with roses come thorns.

Roses remind me of people.

I have a love for people,
I like to be around them.

As much as I like people,
 I find they have thorns.

Some of those thorns are God
made and others are man made.

The God made thorns are personality differences.

I am a faster pace person,
I like to get things done and move on.

So when I am working with a slower pace
person it is like a thorn in my flesh.

So just like God made the rose with thorns,
so He made others different than me.

Needless to say, we all can get irritated with others.

With people, God made them male and female.

I for one am very glad God did it that way,
but just like a rose has beauty and
smells good, women have thorns, too.

There is no doubt that when you get close to
another person you will notice the thorns.

It may be a God made thorn or a man made thorn.

Thorns effect our feelings.

Thorns don’t feel good.

If you touch a thorn you will react.

That reaction happens faster than you can think.

How you respond will depend on the
control or discipline of your tongue.

If you are loose with your tongue,
your inner feelings will be expressed.

Your emotions will react.

If your tongue is disciplined, you will pro act.

So what is the difference?
Reacting focuses on “ME”,
all that matters is how I feel.

Pro Acting focuses on the issues,
all that matters is “resolve” not who is right
or wrong or how much pain is bottled up.

Coming to “resolve” takes wisdom in the spirit of humility.

James tells us…

“No man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men,
who have been made in God's likeness.”

With the tongue we curse people.

People made in the likeness of God.

When we curse people, we curse God.

Your feelings are important.

The poke you felt from the thorn matters.

The issue is how you deal with it.

“If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts,
do not boast about it or deny the truth.”

Remember your heart has the capacity of good and evil.

Selfish ambition resides in the heart
just like love and compassion.

Our heart needs help.

Our emotions need logic as well
as our logic need emotions.

Notice the blend of the heart and mind.

The logic and emotions that comes from heavenly wisdom.

“Wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

The tongue that produces righteousness is…

pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive,
full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere

It may feel good to curse someone, but remember
they are made in the likeness of God.

It is not God’s will that any should perish that is why
Jesus came into the world to redeem it not condemn it.

Scripture Reading

James 3:1-4:1 NIV

3:1 Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.

3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness.   10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
