Do Not Fear
Fear comes upon all
of us
Fear that paralyzes
us and keeps us from the abundant life
God addresses the
fear factor over and over again in His Word
So next time fear
comes over you and you feel like you are losing control and you need a glass of
cold water thrown in your face or a slap across the cheek
God has a bold
command
“FEAR NOT!!!”
Why, because He wants
you to have MORE!!!
Do Not Fear
One of the most paralyzing things in life is fear.
I look back at my life and
see it has been filled with fear.
I was a skinny kid in school
and I was afraid of the bullies.
I was afraid I would look
like a dummy in school.
I was afraid of getting married.
I was afraid of having children.
I was afraid every time I did a wedding or funeral.
Every time I preached.
Yes, I know what it is like to have my body shake,
For fingers to go numb,
My heart to race and concerned
I would have a heart attack.
I know the fear of feeling powerless.
The fear of losing everything.
I have never been able to escape fear.
My days of fear outnumber the days without fear.
Let’s be honest, you and I are
probably afraid of something right now.
Maybe that is why God make it a command…
“Fear not”
Strong words from God “do not be afraid”.
God wants you and I to have more in life and one of
the greatest things keeping us from more is “Fear”.
When you deal with fear there
are things you need to remember…
Fear needs to be
respected
There is a reason for fear.
One of the greatest example is
we are to have a fear of the Lord.
We are to respect Him, yet our fear is
not to keep us from drawing near to Him.
Whether it is fire, water, spiders, snakes
we need a healthy respect for what
we fear in order to enjoy its benefits.
Even the devil is to be respected.
But even the archangel
Michael, when he was disputing with the devil
about the body of
Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation
against him, but said,
"The Lord rebuke you!"
Jude 9
Michael did not curse the devil out to make him feel good,
he knew God’s authority in the matter and took the burden
off
himself and put it where it belongs on God, “The Lord Rebuke
you”.
Respecting fear teaches us how to properly deal with our
fears.
Fear challenges us
God does not want you
and I overwhelmed with fear.
Jesus said before leaving the
disciples and facing his greatest fear…
"I have told you these things, so that in
me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I
have overcome the world."
John 16:33
The world is a fearful place.
By faith Noah, when
warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.
By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that
comes by faith.
Hebrews 11:7
Jesus and Noah saw fear as a
challenge to overcome by faith.
So do not fear, for
I am with you;
do not be dismayed,
for I am your God.
I will strengthen you
and help you;
I will uphold you with
my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Overcoming our fears comes
by knowing God is with us.
God wants you and I to have more.
In the NIV, you will find the command…
“Fear not”, 1 time
“Do not be afraid”, 69 times
“Do not fear”, 18 times
“Be not afraid”, 2 times
There are many other scriptures that tell
us in other variance of words, “Fear not”.
Don’t let fear paralyze you.
Don’t let it overcome you.
When fear comes, engage faith.
Trust that God will give you
everything you need to overcome.
Remember Joseph…
Be confident that what Satan
means for harm, God means for good.
Know that Romans 8:28…
In all things God works for your good.
So next time fear comes over you and
you feel like you are losing control and
you need a glass of cold water thrown
in your face or a slap across the cheek…
God has a bold command
“FEAR NOT!!!”
Why?
Because He wants you
to have MORE!!!
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 43:1-3 NIV
"Fear not , for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
Luke 10:18-20 NIV
18 He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on
snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will
harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but
rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
Hebrews 2:14-16 NIV
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in
their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of
death — that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in
slavery by their fear of death.
