Through Magnification
Though not the first fictional detective,
Sherlock Holmes is arguably the best known.
Guinness
World Records lists him as the
"most portrayed movie character" in history.
Sherlock Holmes
is a fictional private detective
created by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Referring to himself as a "consulting detective"
in the stories,
Holmes is known for his proficiency with observation,
forensic science, and logical
reasoning that borders on the fantastic,
which he employs when investigating cases for a
wide variety of clients, including Scotland
Yard.
One of the things Detective Sherlock Homes
is remembered for is his magnifying glass.
Magnifying glasses cause our eyes
to see objects larger than they are.
When the common is enlarged our eyes see things
that give us clues to what has been secret to others.
The secret was always there.
The clues were always
there.
But until we take the time to take a closer look,
To view it under a magnifying glass…
We miss the secrets to life.
Once we look through the lens we begin to see
that the secret code is contained in all of God’s
commands, not just the most repeated ones.
What is the secret?
Faith-filled obedience leads us to joy.
Leads us to abundant life.
God only commands His people to do the
things that will bring ultimate happiness.
John says in 1 John 5:3…
“This is love for God:
to obey his commands.
And his commands are
not burdensome”
“And his commands are
not burdensome.”
Many people get the idea that God’s Word
is a bunch of “Dos and Don’ts”.
David discovered that the law of the Lord was perfect.
It revives the soul and makes the simple wise.
Its reward is better than gold and sweeter then honey.
Psalm 19:7-11
You have made known to
me the path of life;
you will fill me with
joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures
at your right hand.
Psalm 16:11
When God’s Word says “Praise the Lord”
or “fear not” or “rejoice always” and every
other command He is saying I want you to be happy.
The God of hope wants to fill you with
all joy and peace as you trust in Him.
Romans 15:13
Discover the clues to a happy life.
Don’t just look at God’s Word with the naked eye.
Get out the magnifying glass.
Make God’s Word bigger to
see the clues to joy and peace.
Psalm 119:35…
Direct me in the path
of your commands,
for there I find
delight.
Proverbs 3:5-6…
Trust in the LORD with
all your heart
and lean not on your
own understanding;
6 in all your ways
acknowledge him,
and he will make your
paths straight.
Scripture Reading
1 John 5:1-5 NIV
5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born
of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is
how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out
his commands. 3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands
are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the
victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes
the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
Romans 15:13 NIV
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as
you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy
Spirit.
Psalm 119:35 NIV
35 Direct me in the path of your commands,
for there I find delight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
5 Trust in the LORD
with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
