Walk ‘with’ vs ‘before’ God
Sandy and I used to go to different
area parks to walk.
Those walks were wonderful times.
When we started,
we had to come to some agreement.
We had to agree to walk,
when to walk,
and at what pace.
After we passed those hurdles,
we were able to walk together.
We found that those walks
knitted us together in our purpose,
as we walked and talked about our lives.
When we walk and talk with God,
we become united in our purpose of life.
If you do a concordance search on the words,
walked with God...
You will find that there were only
two people who are mentioned
that walked with
God.
Enoch and Noah
They are the only ones recorded
to have walked
with God.
We believe Adam and Eve,
walked in the garden with God.
And the disciples walked with Jesus,
as well as some others.
The Bible mentions two who
walked before the Lord.
David and Hezekiah
1 Kings 3:6 AMP
“He (David) walked before You
in faithfulness, righteousness,
and uprightness of heart with You.”
2 Kings 20:3 NIV
Hezekiah said he,
“walked before You faithfully
and with wholehearted devotion
and
have done what is good in Your eyes."
I do not want to make too much out of this,
but there seems to be a difference between
walking ‘with’
God and walking ‘before’ Him.
When we walk
before the Lord,
God has His eyes on us.
Walking before God is a place of proving ourselves;
a place where God can see the way we live.
All of us walk
before the Lord
and hopefully our walk is pleasing to Him.
But, there is a walk
with the Lord.
When you are walking with someone,
you are in step with them.
When I walk with my wife, I walk slower,
I change my pace in order for us to walk side by side.
Noah was able to walk with God
because his walk was righteous and blameless.
Walking with
someone is a sign of friendship.
You walk with
someone you want to get to know.
Walking with
someone deepens your relationship.
How much time are we
walking before the Lord vs
walking with Him?
Is everyday a walk with
Him?
Scripture Reading
Genesis 6:9-10 NIV
9 This is the account
of Noah.
Noah was a righteous
man, blameless among the people of his time,
and he walked with God.
10 Noah had three
sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
