Breaking the Cycle of Sin and the Curse

Breaking the Cycle of Sin and the Curse

Enoch walked with God 300 years.

One thing I have enjoyed
as I have gotten older
is being reunited with people
I have not seen in years.

This is especially true
when I am united with people
who have lived Godly lives
for 30, 40 or more years.

I can't imagine
how much better the world is
because of their lives…

People who walked with God daily
for all those years

Who held the moral compass

And modeled a Christ-like walk

Have made a difference!

From the time Adam and Eve
were removed from the garden,
until Adam was 130 years old,
man made his own decisions
- without God.

Adam and Eve’s son Cain,
and their great grandson Lamech,
 were both murderers.

It is hard to image the grief of Adam and Eve.

To have lived in the Paradise of God
and now see their family build cities
without the presence of God.

When Adam was 130 years old,
Eve gave birth to Seth.

Seth was a replacement son for Abel,
who pleased the Lord.

It was Seth and his son Enosh
that start a course back towards God.

In Genesis 4:26 NIV it says…

“At that time, men began to call
on the name of the LORD.”

Men and women began to identify
with God and worship Him.

One family of Adam and Eve,
but two different groups of people.

Those who are without God
and those who chose to worship God.

It took over 130 years for people
to turn back to God.

God has always been looking
for those who would seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6 NIV says…

“And without faith it is impossible to please God,
because anyone who comes to Him
must believe that He exists
and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

In Luke 3,
where we are given the genealogy of Jesus,
we can find in verse 38 that after Adam,
was Seth,
and then Seth’s son Enosh is named.

And Genesis 5:24 NIV
we find,

“Enoch walked with God;
then he was no more,
because God took him away.”

Enoch for 300 years walked with God;
until one day as they were walking,

God said to Enoch,

We are closer to My house than yours,
come stay with Me.

And Enoch never came back!

We can break the cycle of sin and the curse
 if we follow the example
of Seth, Enosh and Enoch.

Scripture Reading

Genesis 4:25-5:24 NIV

25 Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."
26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.

At that time men began to call on the name of the LORD.

5:1 This is the written account of Adam's line.

When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.
2 He created them male and female and blessed them.
And when they were created, he called them "man."

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.

6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of Enosh. 7 And after he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters.
8 Altogether, Seth lived 912 years, and then he died.

9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. 10 And after he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters.
11 Altogether, Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died.

12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. 13 And after he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived 910 years, and then he died.

15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. 16 And after he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived 895 years, and then he died.

18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 And after he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters.
20 Altogether, Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah.
22 And after he became the father of Methuselah,
Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years.
24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
