A Fur Coat
I think of family and
friends who live in Florida,
who may have picked a
ripe orange off the tree for breakfast this morning.
I look outside and see
the ground and trees covered with cold snow.
I somehow identify with
Adam and Eve being under the curse
and needing a warm
fur coat.
Picture from my back door -
anyone from Florida want to trade places?
“The wages of
sin is death”
Romans 6:23
From the very beginning we can see that sin
(disobedience to God)
brings on a curse of pain and death.
The joy of having a child is now effected by
the increase of pain in child birth.
The joy of working accomplishment is effected by
thistles and thorns.
It seems that the Garden was a place you could live
forever in
but because of sin, man returns to dust.
This is a sad commentary until
God makes Adam and Eve fur coats.
It took the shedding of blood for Adam and Eve
to be covered and not be overcome by shame.
God made provision but not without cost;
an animal(s) had to die.
This is the first of a multitude of examples
where death and blood were used to cover
the sin, guilt and shame.
A coat can only serve as a covering.
God wants you!
And to have more
than covering for our sins.
God wants to wash away our sin and shame.
So God prepared a death greater than that of animals.
The death of His Son!
The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the World!
Adam and Eve were terrified of God
that is why they hid.
Can you image how they felt
when God put those fur coats on them.
They could feel the warmth of His love.
It is like the love of a parent
who hugs their child after a spanking.
And now you and I can put on Christ Jesus!
The Bible says that,
“If we confess
our sins
(to speak about our actions the same way
God does)
He is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins
and to cleans us from ALL
unrighteousness”
1 John 1:9
It is snowing outside, and in the single digits;
He has washed me white as snow
and I am wrapped in His love.
Thank you Lord!
Scripture Reading
Genesis 3:16-22 NIV
16 To the woman he
said,
"I will greatly
increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will
give birth to children.
Your desire will be
for your husband,
and he will rule over
you."
17 To Adam he said,
"Because you
listened to your wife
and ate from the tree
about which I commanded you,
'You must not eat of
it,'
"Cursed is the
ground because of you;
through painful toil
you will eat of it
all the days of your
life.
18 It will produce
thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the
plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your
brow
you will eat your
food
until you return to
the ground,
since from it you
were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will
return."
20 Adam named his
wife Eve,
because she would
become the mother of all the living.
21 The LORD God made
garments of skin
for Adam and his wife
and clothed them.
