The Blame Game

The Blame Game

How many times have you heard
‘it is not my fault’?

The excuses are endless from
I was born that way,
plea of temporary insanity,
nobody told me
and the list goes on.

There is even a website
dedicated to recording excuses
with over 900 to date.

I think we all get tired of excuses!

Little children play the Blame Game all the time.

And many of us perfect the game
as we become adults.

We can get very good at pointing the finger
at other people and things
when we’ve done wrong.

It is always someone else’s fault.

Adam blamed God and Eve,
the woman you put here with me”

Eve blamed the serpent.

But God judged and disciplined
each one of them.

What happens when we fail
to take responsibility
for our actions?

We silence the alarms,
our sense of shame and guilt becomes dull
and God gives us over to our own thinking.

Romans 1:28 NIV

“Since they did not think it worthwhile
to retain the knowledge of God,
He gave them over to a depraved mind,
to do what ought not to be done.”

A major part of learning comes
from recognizing our weaknesses.

Making mistakes is a part of life,
but learning from those mistakes
leads to wisdom and prosperity.

Blaming others
destroys relationships;
I am sure Eve gave Adam
the cold shoulder for awhile.

Blaming others is a sign of immaturity.

How should we respond?

Instead of hiding from God
admit your wrong quickly;
God is merciful.

Let God know you recognize your weakness
and need His grace to make you strong.

“Bear ye one another’s burdens”

Ask yourself the question
when others are involved:

“How can you help the other person?”

Remember there are no winners
in the Blame Game!

Scripture Reading

Genesis 3:6-13 NIV

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food
and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.
She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened,
and they realized they were naked;
so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God
as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day,
and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?"

10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden,
and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

11 And he said, "Who told you that you were naked?
Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

12 The man said, "The woman you put here with me —
she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."

13 Then the LORD God said to the woman,
"What is this you have done?"

The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
