A Look at the Heart of God
God was grieved with every person on the earth.
But,
Noah found
favor
in the eyes of the Lord.
How did he do it?
The Secret…
He touched the heart of God!
Our selfishness keeps us from seeing much beyond
the things that effect our lives.
A good gage to help us find out how self-centered we
are,
is recalling our conversations for the last week or so.
When you are in conversation with others
are you talking about your life
or asking about the other person’s life?
Are you listening to what others
have to say about their life?
The question is
how well do we know the heart
of those around us?
Are those around us happy,
or sad on the inside?
Our God has a heart, too!
A heart that feels
the emotions of joy and sorrow.
We sometimes don’t think about it
because He is God Almighty.
But as big as God is,
His heart breaks just like ours.
From the fall in the Garden,
until the time of Noah,
God’s heart was breaking.
He looked for those who would draw near to Him,
to care about what He cares about.
But what we find is…
“The LORD saw how great
man's wickedness on the earth had
become,
and that every inclination of the
thoughts of His heart
was only evil all the time.”
Genesis 6:5 NIV
God’s heart was so grieved
that He regretted creating people.
In fact, God is at His wits end.
He is at a point of hopelessness.
Until He sees Noah.
Noah found grace (favor).
What was it God saw in Noah?
It is hard to image that
God’s heart is not broken now.
It is hard to image
that He would put up with the evil
and selfishness of people much longer.
Could it be that there are those like Noah today
that are keeping the wrath of God away.
As God looks through the earth,
and His eyes stop at your house…
Does He like what He sees?
God is still looking for those to show His favor on.
Be a modern day Noah!
Scripture Reading
Genesis 6:1-8 NIV
6:1 When men began to
increase in number on the earth
and daughters were
born to them,
2 the sons of God saw
that the daughters of men were beautiful,
and they married any
of them they chose.
3 Then the LORD said,
"My Spirit will not contend with man forever,
for he is mortal; his
days will be a hundred and twenty years."
4 The Nephilim were
on the earth in those days — and also afterward —
when the sons of God
went to the daughters of men and had children by them.
They were the heroes
of old, men of renown.
5 The LORD saw how
great man's wickedness on the earth had become,
and that every
inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.
6 The LORD was
grieved that he had made man on the earth,
and his heart was
filled with pain.
7 So the LORD said,
"I will wipe mankind,
whom I have created,
from the face of the earth
— men and animals,
and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air
— for I am grieved
that I have made them."
8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
