Romans 12
Offer Your Body
Our bodies are an amazing thing
They were created from the dust of the earth and shaped in God’s image
Like a potter working the clay when something is wrong
He was making a pot from clay. But there was something wrong with the pot. So the potter used that clay to make another pot. With his hands he shaped the pot the way he wanted it to be. Jeremiah 18:4
God is reworking our bodies into the image He created us for
Which is to look like Him
This happens as our minds are transforming and renewed
Giving us the ability to know what pleases God
Take care of your body so you can use it to serve the Lord
It is a sacrifice to offer your body to God
But it is worth it because God is merciful
Image is important
Being in the image of God is what is important
Offer Your Body
Our bodies are an amazing thing.
They were created from the dust of
the earth and shaped in God’s image.
That is quite an image.
If you are a potter…
You see the dust of the earth as clay.
With skilled hands
the clay is shaped for a purpose.
God sent Jeremiah to the potter’s
house to see God.
He is still shaping the clay today.
God reworks the clay…
When we get out of the shape
God intended for us.
He was making a pot from clay.
But there was something wrong with the pot.
So the potter used that clay to make another pot.
With his hands he shaped the pot the way he wanted it to be.
Jeremiah 18:4
A pot is made to hold something.
From the Old Testament to the New,
God’s desire is to fill us with Himself.
The image is your body
filled with the Spirit of God.
God will take you and reshape you
if you cannot hold His glory.
God will take the pot that is defiled
and remake it for His purpose.
How well are we holding the Holy Spirit?
How well are we holding the glory of God?
It is the Spirit of God that makes you alive.
It is the Spirit of God that makes
our bodies living sacrifices.
Our bodies are changing from the
time of conception to the time it
returns to the dust it was made of.
Yet, God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
With all the changes we go through in life…
God in us never changes.
We can expect when we are outwardly wasting away…
Inwardly, we are being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
A temple that is not to be yoked
or united with unbelievers,
wickedness, darkness, or other gods
2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Our bodies are tempted with the things of this world.
Things that make us feel good
for the short term.
But God makes us feel good for eternity
Be careful of the message…
Eat, drink for tomorrow you die.
And those who say life is short.
so have an affair.
Your body was made to be
holy and pleasing to God.
True worship is more than a song.
It is a harmony of your body
in service with God’s will.
Your body matters to God.
Paul’s prayer in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 is…
For God to sanctify your body
as well as your spirit and soul.
Your body is like the car you drive.
A car that does not get the proper care
will have a shorten life span.
If you do not change your oil,
problems will show up later that
may end the life of the car early.
Your body is also like a car in respects
that it cannot go anywhere without a driver.
You take it where you want to go.
Depending on what you are thinking about
determines where you will take your car.
This is why Paul says…
We need a transformed mind.
What you are thinking about
will determine where you will go.
The renewed mind is able to discern
God’s good, pleasing and perfect will.
The renewed mind has one goal…
Pleasing the Lord.
Take care of your body
so you can use it to serve the Lord.
It is a sacrifice to offer your body to God.
But it is worth it because God is merciful.
Scripture Reading
Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
