Romans 12 Confidence or Conceit

Romans 12

Confidence or Conceit

Conceit hinders our ability to bless

And live in harmony with others Romans 12:14-16

It is so important you and I find our faith increases our confidence levels

But as confidence levels increase, stay humble

Our lives were meant to give, not require

Give and it shall be given to you

Good measure pressed down and shaken together,

shall people pour into your lap Luke 6:38

Increase comes by giving, not requiring

Keep the mercy, grace, faith and giftings God has given you to serve others

Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position

Do not be conceited. Romans 12:16

Confidence or Conceit

Paul reminds us of two very important

elements we need to be confident.

Think of how insecure you feel

when you are guilty of wrong.

Paul has spent much of the first 11 chapters

in the Book of Romans pointing out our guilt.

In Chapter 12, Paul starts with…

 “in view of God’s mercy”.

Mercy restores confidence.

In verses 3-8, Paul points out the confidence we have

because of the special giftings He has given us.

There is a measure of faith you

and I have to be good at something.

A proper relationship with Christ

will give you great confidence.

Knowing how much He loves you

and the sacrifices He made

to not only save you from hell…

But to give you a special roll in history,

to make a permanent foot print in the earth.

But with confidence is the need to give a warning…

Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought.

Romans 12:3

As faith builds confidence in your life…

think of yourself with sober judgment,

in accordance with the faith God

has distributed to each of you.

As your faith and my faith grows…

Our knowledge both in God’s Word

and experience grows.

As we gain confidence in

the areas of expertise God has gifted us in…

As we enjoy the freedom we have in Christ…

We should always keep a sober judgment of ourselves.

The greatest among you shall be your servant

Matthew 23:11

Jesus gave more concern for the 1 than the 99.

 Mathew 18; Luke 15

The members that seem to be less comely

we are to bestow more honor.

 1 Corinthians 12:23

When we walk in faith,

we will have confidence.

That is a great feeling.

Casting out demons,

healing the sick,

helping the needy

 As wonderful as confidence is…

There is a warning on the label…

Warning! Confidence may cause conceit.

Do not be proud,

but be willing to associate with people of low position

Do not be conceited.

Romans 12:16

Pride and conceit will keep us

from effectively operating in our gift.

It will also keep us from being effective

in faithfulness to the rest of the chapter…

Our love, our devotion to others,

our healthy zeal, our joy, patience,

faithfulness, our sharing.

Romans 12:9-13

Conceit hinders our ability to bless,

and live in harmony with others.

 Romans 12:14-16

It is so important you and I

find our faith increases our confidence levels

But as confidence levels increase, stay humble.

Our lives were meant to give, not require.

Give and it shall be given to you

good measure pressed down and shaken together,

shall people pour into your lap.

 Luke 6:38

Increase comes by giving, not requiring.

Keep the mercy, grace, faith and giftings

God has given you to serve others.

Do not be proud,

but be willing to associate with people of low position

Do not be conceited.

Romans 12:16

Scripture Reading

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Love in Action

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.
