Calling Special

Calling
Special

If I was a girl, I would want my name to be K
Because so many people want to start their day with Special K
Oh K (pun intended) I admit that was flakey (dido)
You and I must know we are special to answer the call of God
But we must not let the feelings of being special dominate with arrogates
Every day we need to grow in the Knowledge of God
That Knowledge will confirm we are specials even if we do not feel like it

Special

If I was a girl, I would want my name to be K
because so many people want to
start their day with Special K.

Oh K (pun intended)
I admit that was flakey.

As a young boy I felt special.

It did not come from
the kids around me.

Although my grandmothers made me feel special,
it was God who made me feel special.

Before I started school, I remember
sleeping with my Bible
even though I could not read, yet.

I remember in Kindergarten feeling
like I was in a special place with God.

I did not have a closet to pray in,
but the place in the kitchen where the
garbage can was, gave my little body
a hiding place to be with God.

You might say I felt like I was God’s favorite
not with pride, but gratefulness for His love.

As I grew older, I thought I would do great
things for God because I was special.

But I also came to realize God was doing
great things for others and with others.

Although I was grateful that God made me
feel like His favorite, I was glad
to see “God so loved the world”.

He wants to make everyone
feel like they are His favorite.

The Bible says…

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:7-8

Before you and I were born, God made us special.

Being special isn’t about how great you
are, it is all about how great He is.

You will have to feel special to respond
to the call of God on your life.

We should never forget that in
our undeserving state of sin,
 Christ died for us.

This is an amazing demonstration of God’s love.

God called you to be His child
before you were born.

So it is not because of what you have become,
good or bad, that caused God to call you.
This reality has become so important to me.

There are times in life you
are not going to feel special.

There are times when you have prayed
and fasted for a miracle.

When you cannot identify with
Christ healing the sick.

But you can relate to Him
crying on the cross…

“My God my God why have you forsaken me?”

There will be times when it seems God
is pouring out His blessing on others
and you feel forgotten.

My life has lots of these moments where the
call did not seem to line up with the support.

Like God sent me out and He stayed home.

This is why we have to be
very careful with our feelings.

If you are going to answer the call of
God on your life, you need to grow
in the “Knowledge of God”.

We don’t follow God because
He makes us feel good.

We follow God because of
what we know about Him.

Moses said it first at age 120 to God’s
people before entering the Promise Land.

The Psalmist also said, and the writer
of the Book of Hebrews repeated it…

"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"
Hebrews 13:5-6, Psalms 118:6, Deuteronomy 31:6

As a young man I adopted this as my life verse.

Whether it is your life verse or not,
 you will need to “know”
“God will never leave you”.

You are special to God, but not because of
what you feel, but because of the truth.

This is why Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:7…

We live by faith, not by sight.

The NIV gives us 52 verses that tell us “By faith”.

Paul makes the matter clear in verse 6 of 2 Corinthians…

Therefore we are always confident and
know that as long as we are at home in
the body we are away from the Lord.

There is a reality…

God is not with us, He is at
home preparing a place for us.

But as Jesus told His disciples…

He would not leave us as orphans
but He gave us the Holy Spirit.

It is this Holy Spirit that lives inside of us,
a spiritual relationship with our spirit.

Yes, the Spirit makes us feel good and teaches us
all things and brings things back to our remembrances…

But we are not just spiritual
beings, we have a fleshly body.

There will be times when the things you
perceive through the five senses dominate
and our fleshly needs and desires
rule over the spirit.

You and I must know we are
special to answer the call of God.

But we must not let the feelings
of being special dominate with arrogates.

Every day we need to grow
in the Knowledge of God.

That Knowledge will confirm we are
specials even if we do not feel like it.

Scripture Reading

Romans 5:7-8 NIV
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Hebrews 13:5-6  NIV
"Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."

6 So we say with confidence,

"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"

2 Corinthians 5:6-9 NIV
6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 We live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.
