Family Danger, Danger

Family
Danger, Danger

The robot B-9 in the mid 60” show Lost in Space
Was a protector of the young Will Robinson and his famous line was
“Danger, Danger, Will Roberson”
Like the sensors in the robot, God’s sensors detect danger and warn us
“Sin is crouching at your door… you must master it”
Danger, we as parents, may not be aware of
We need as parents to help our children to know the Lord
Family is instituted by God and as the scriptures say
Whatsoever God has joined together
The family is incomplete without God
The more the family keeps the focus of God in the home
The safer the family will be
“My sensors detect an intruder is approaching. Danger, Danger Will Robinson”
…LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." Genesis 4:6-7

Danger, Danger

If you were a kid in the mid 60’s,
you probably watched a black and white
television show called Lost in Space.

The show focuses on October 16, 1997,
and the United States was
gearing up to colonize space.

The space ship was sabotaged
which caused the space ship to
prematurely engage its hyperdrive.

Which caused the crew to be lost in space.

  Aboard was the Robinson Family,
Dr. John Robinson and his wife,
 Maureen, and their three children.

Their youngest son was Will Robinson.

A precocious 9-year-old in the first season.

He was a child prodigy in

The robot was a B-9 model environmental
control robot who had no given name.

The machine was endowed with superhuman
strength and futuristic weaponry.

It often displays human characteristics,
such as laughter, sadness, and mockery.

B-9 was a protector of the young
Will Robinson and his famous line was…

Danger, Danger, Will Roberson!

In one episode, Will’s dad programed
the robot to watch his son, Will.

Will did not like the idea of being watched
and asked the robot to look the other way.

We do not have to be lost in space to face danger.

Like Will, we don’t always want to be watched.

This is the story of Cain.

According to the Bible, Cain was
the first person born into this world.

The story of Cain is amazing.

Cain did not have the outside
influences we had in growing up.

No violence on TV or Video Games.

There was no guns or weapons
of mass destruction.

Cain was a boy raised by Adam and Eve.

Adam and Eve found parenting all new.

They could not look to their parents as a model.
They were the “founders of parenting”.

It is hard to image what it was
like to be the first born into the
world and to be the first parents.

Eve became pregnant and had
another son and his name was Abel.

Like most siblings born in the same
family, there are different personalities.

Cain loved to work in the garden planting
and bringing fruit from the earth was his joy.

His younger brother loved animals, seeing
his flocks grow gave him fulfillment.

Both boys had promising careers.

 They both were fulfilling what
God had told their parents to do.

In Genesis 4, we see a problem arose…

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. 4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
Genesis 4:2-5

God shows His grace and
favor on the offering of Abel.

When Cain did not see God’s favor
on his offering, he became angry.

Like Will Robinson’s robot,
 God comes saying, Danger, Danger.

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."
Genesis 4:6-7

“Sin is crouching at your door…
and you must master it”

It is incredible to think Cain could
have anger and murder in his heart.

But think about it…

Have you ever said in your heart

 “I hate you”
Or,
 “I wish you were dead”
Or worse,
 “I want to kill you”

Maybe it was a fleeting thought.

But I think we all have
had thoughts like that.

We are seeing an unprecedented amount of murders.

We can ask where were the parents?

But like Adam and Eve they were
discovering how to live and be parents.

We can ask…

Is it the violence in our entertainment?

The accessibility of guns?

The Robinson Family was lost in space.

They had a robot whose sensors could detect danger.

All of us are a part of a family.

We are all lost in this world.

We all need God…

Whose sensors pick up on our anger.

We need God…

To warn us, to cry out Danger, Danger!

Parents don’t always know what
is going on in their child’s head.

And with every child’s personality
being different, and different than ours,
it is hard to see what is knocking at the
door of our children’s minds and hearts.

God is better than a robot.

He not only sees external dangers,
but He sees what is in our hearts and minds.

We need, as parents, to help
our children to know the Lord.

As Americans, we need to know the Lord.

It has been said you don’t see
followers of Christ killing people.

And if, like Cain, they did, it would be
because they did not heed God’s warning…

Danger, Danger, Sin is
crouching at your door.

Family is instituted by God
and as the scriptures say…

Whatsoever God has joined together

The family is incomplete without God.

The more the family keeps
the focus of God in the home…

The safer the family will be!

“My sensors detect an intruder is approaching. Danger, Danger Will Robinson”
…LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."

Scripture Reading

Genesis 4:1-12 NIV

4:1 Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, "With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man." 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. 4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."

8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?"

"I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"

10 The LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. 11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."
