Family
In Times of Violence and Corruption
Noah raised his
family in the end times before the flood
God said this about
the times and condition when Noah was building his family
Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence. Genesis 6:11
…all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. Genesis 6:12
for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Genesis 6:13
Noah was faced with
raising and building his family
In a world of
violence and corruption
Long before the ark
Noah walked in righteousness
He did it with the
respect of his family
With the violence and
corruption we see in the news
We might think we are
again in the last days
Be like Noah build
your family
And when the times
come, God will show you how to build an ark
In Times of Violence
and Corruption
If you were to do a search for the first time
the word family
appears in the
NIV Bible, you would find Genesis 7:1…
The LORD then said to
Noah,
“Go into the ark, you
and your whole family,
because I have found
you
righteous in this
generation.
You certainly cannot make a lot
out of this little fact…
But I find it interesting that Noah’s
family is first mentioned and Noah’s
family was the first family after the flood.
More important to us is…
Noah was raising his
family in
the end times before the flood.
God said this about the times and condition
when Noah was building his family…
Now the earth was
corrupt in
God's sight and was
full of violence.
Genesis 6:11
Genesis 6:11
…All the people on
earth had corrupted their ways.
Genesis 6:12
For the earth is
filled with violence because of them.
Genesis 6:13
Noah was faced with raising and building his
family in a world of violence and corruption.
Long before the ark, Noah walked in righteousness.
He did it with the respect of his family.
Jesus compares the end times
of the earth to the times of Noah…
As it was in the days
of Noah , so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were
eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah
entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood
came and took them all away.
That is how it will be
at the coming of the Son of Man
Matthew
24:37-39
It did not look all bad in the times of Noah
and in the time Jesus was talking about…
Normal things like eating and drinking and marriage.
Later Jesus says in this passage in Matthew 24…
Jesus says the
righteous will be working
together with the unrighteous.
How did Noah keep his family together?
Certainly the ark was a great accomplishment
of Noah, but it does not compare to his ability to
build his family in a time of violence and corruption.
I wish we had a video of Noah’s
life before building the ark.
We get a picture of them building the ark
but not much of a picture of life before the ark.
So what do we know? …
Noah was a righteous
man.
Noah lived by what was right while
the people around him were corrupt.
The word corrupt means to “decay”
like fruit when it is ripe is good
but over time it begins to decay.
Noah’s fruits of Righteousness did not decay…
Blameless among the
people of his time.
I can imagine the ridicule
Noah must have took.
Noah did not lower his standard to fit in.
Think of how the world pressures
us to accept language and actions
not becoming of Christ…
And he walked with God.
Noah’s walk with God was
not like Adam’s face to face
Noah was like us, so what
did that daily walk look like? …
By faith Noah,
when warned about
things not yet seen,
in holy fear built an
ark to save his family.
Hebrew 11:7
I don’t think we can say Noah’s
building the ark saved his family.
It was his faith.
If it was not for
Noah’s faith long before
the ark, his children would have been like the
other children filled with violence and corruption.
Peter tells us…
…But protected Noah, a
preacher
of righteousness, and
seven others.
2 Peter 2:5
Noah did not escape the flood by being
silent and sliding under the radar.
Noah proclaimed the Righteousness of God.
With the violence and corruption,
we see in the news, we might
think we are again in the last days.
Be like Noah…
Build your family.
And when the times come,
God will show you how
to build an ark.
Scripture Reading
Genesis 6:9-14 NIV
9 This is the account of Noah.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his
time, and he walked with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of
violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on
earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, "I am going to put
an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I
am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark
of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.
Genesis 7:1-2 NIV
7:1 The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you
and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.
Matthew 24:36-41
36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the
angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of
Noah , so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before
the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up
to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would
happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at
the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be
taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one
will be taken and the other left.
We see in Noah that it wasn't just about him, but that his faith impacted his children. The example he set as a faithful man was a big part of him being a father and raising his kids.
