Light Fellowship in the Light

Light
Fellowship in the Light

1 John is written to believer; to those who call themselves Christians
That the Blood of Jesus is needed throughout our walk of life
In order to walk in fellowship with God we must realize
God wants us to walk in fellowship with one another
He wants us to know dark things, “sin” will be exposed as we Walk in the Light
But there is hope if we admit our darkness and confess our sin
The Blood of Jesus will cleanse us
And the walk we have with each other will become more wonderful
We should also remember
If our time is limited in Walking in the Light with other believers
If we walk with those who live in darkness
The process of the Light of God is greatly limited
Recognize your need to Walk in the Light as He is in the Light

Fellowship in the Light

John in his first Epistle writes to believers.

It would almost seem 1 John 1:5-10
is talking to unbelievers.

Look at verses 8-10…

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

But these words are not to the
unsaved sinner, but to the believer.

John illustrates His point with the word “light”.

Thought out the Bible, God is spoken of as Light.

Here in verse 5, John sums this up in three words…

 “God is Light”
And “in Him is no darkness at all”.

John says this is his message.

So what is the message of “God is Light”?

The message has to do with fellowship
or from the Greek word “Koinonia”…

To have partnership, participation,
social intercourse, benefaction.

There seems to be a problem…

God is Light and in him is no darkness at all.

And…

If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk
in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him
out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

So God is pure Light and
we as believers are not.

What fellowship can light have with darkness?

John brings this into simple terms…

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Verse 7

You and I are to have fellowship
with one another.

If we have that fellowship Walking in the Light,
the sin, darkness of our lives will be exposed.

When it is exposed, there is hope.

The blood of Jesus cleanses us from “all” sin.

None of us can claim we are
without sin at any point in our life.

The removal of sin in you and I,
is a lifelong process and it is
important that we realize this.

A Christian can have sin.

There are areas of our lives
where we live in darkness.

We don’t always know the darkness is there.

When we walk in fellowship with each other and
in the Light as He is in the Light, things get exposed.

I should not expect you to be perfect and
you should not expect me to be perfect.

When you and I realize this and realize
we have a desire to Walk in the Light
not in darkness, we help one another.

We realize Jesus shed His blood on the cross not
just to wash away the past so we can go to heaven…

Jesus shed His blood to purify our daily walk.

To help us make the daily life changes
that reveal “I am a work in progress”.

Remember Philippians 1:5 -6…

Because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will
carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

The partnership or fellowship with
the Gospel is an ongoing work.

The very good work God started in
you will be completed in Christ Jesus.

When we walk in the pure Light of God
with one another things will get exposed.

When they do, we should not become
surprised or try to keep us in the dark.

Because…

If we confess our sins, he is faithful
and just and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness.

 Confession…

Therefore confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
James 5:16

As a pastor, I found people who loved me
and liked to spend time with me.

But there were times they did not want me around,
there were things they did not want to talk about.

God wants us to walk in fellowship with one another.

He wants us to know dark things, “sin”
will be exposed as we Walk in the Light.

But there is hope if we admit our
darkness and confess our sin.

The Blood of Jesus will cleanse us
and the walk we have with each other
will become more wonderful.

We should also remember, if our time is
limited in Walking in the Light with other believers…

If we walk with those who live in darkness…

The process of the Light of God is greatly limited.

Recognize your need to Walk in
the Light as He is in the Light.

Scripture Reading

1 John 1:5-10 NIV

5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
