Power I Have Overcome the World

Power
I Have Overcome the World

Jesus faced the darkest days, temptations and trial,
pain and suffering insults and rejection
He overcame all the things we face
He is sympathetic to the things that weaken us
So what does it mean to you?
“I have overcome the world”
What hold does the prince of this world, the influences of humanity have on you?
You can do all things through Christ who gives us strength
Because Jesus overcame the world
We can become more than conquers through Christ who loves us

I Have Overcome the World

What does it mean to you when Jesus says…

 “I have overcome the world”

Jesus in His final discourse of John 14 -17 says…

“…I came from the Father and entered the world;
now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father."
John 16:28

There is a world below and a world above.

It is this world below Jesus overcame.

Jesus also says…

When he (the holy Spirit) comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;
10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father,
where you can see me no longer; 11 and in regard to judgment,
because the prince of this world now stands condemned. John 16:8-11

This world below has a prince.

A judged and condemned prince.

Earlier Jesus speaks of this prince of the world…

I will not speak with you much longer,
for the prince of this world is coming.
He has no hold on me  John 14:30

Condemned does not mean he is not active.

In John 3:16, we see the world
is humanity, people God loves.

Jesus overcame the world.

Jesus did not walk the earth
as a bouncy, positive-thinker.

Jesus was a man of sorrows.
 Isaiah 53:33

God so loved the world
not because it was so great.

God so loved the world because He saw how
far humanity had fallen from the world above…

The great problems we have created.

Proverbs tells us there is a way that seems
right to a man but the end is destruction.

Jesus saw how destructive we are and because
of His love came to do something about it.

The world treated Jesus like it
will treat those who follow Him.

When we find ourselves experiencing “weaknesses, insults,
hardships, persecutions, and calamities” (2 Corinthians 12:10),
something strange isn’t happening to us (1 Peter 4:12).
It is what we must expect living in a
creation subjected to futility (Romans 8:20).

But we have hope…
in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Romans 8:20-24

The overcoming life is…
 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing
 2 Corinthians 6:10

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the
author and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before him endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat down at the right
hand of the throne of God. Consider him
who endured such opposition from sinful men,
so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Hebrews 12:1-3

God works all things, sorrow, hardship,
all things for our good. Romans 8:28

Jesus faced the darkest days, temptations and
trial, pain and suffering insults and rejection.

He overcame all the things we face.

He is sympathetic to the things that weaken us.

So what does it mean to you?

“I have overcome the world”

What hold does the prince of this world,
the influences of humanity have on you?

You can do all things through
 Christ who gives us strength…

Because Jesus overcame the world.

We can become more than
conquers through Christ who loves us.
