Power anything too hard for the Lord?

Power

Is anything too hard for the Lord?

As children it can be so easy to believe God can do anything
Sarah showed remarkable faith in the Lord and her husband throughout life
But as she got older she questioned what the Lord could do for her
As we get older is it harder to believe?
Is anything too hard for the Lord?

Is anything too hard for the Lord?

As a boy, I used to sit with my friends
and we would ask the question…

Is there anything God cannot do?

We would talk about all the powerful things God could do.

And then try to think of what Almighty God could not do.

As little children when one would come up
with an idea of what God could not do, the
others would come up with a way to do it.

How simple our minds were.

How easy it was to believe the God
who created the heavens and the earth,

The God who parted the Red Sea,

The God who turned water into wine,

Who healed the sick and raised the dead,

Who died on a cross and came back to life again…

What could be too difficult for God to do?

As we grow up our minds
become more complicated.

We face hard situations and not bolts of lightning
coming down from heaven and changing everything.

Our thought and expectations of God become challenged
and we are not as sure of what God will do or not do.

We wonder if our lives will hinder God’s strength.

Maybe what we believe is only
in the spiritual, not the natural.

So maybe we can imagine Sarah at almost
100 years of age listening to her husband Abraham
talking to the three men Abraham addressed as lord.

One of the men says…

Then the LORD  said, “I will surely return to you about
this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.”

Sarah knew this was impossible.

It did not matter if it was
the Lord or not who said it.

It sounded ridiculous.

So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought,
"After I am worn out and my master is old,
will I now have this pleasure?"

I know there were a lot of things we
said as kids that were ridiculous.

Even though God could do
them we knew He would not.

As we get older we have to watch our lack of faith.

The Lord said…

"Why did Sarah laugh and say,
'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?'

Sarah was an amazing women, she lived a
life of trusting the Lord and her husband.

Yet, she laughed.

Sarah respected these men (the Lord).

When she was confronted, she lied.

She did not want the Lord to see on
the outside the doubt on the inside.

The Lord asked the question…

Is anything too hard for the LORD?

Is there anything you think is too hard for the Lord?

Anything you might laugh at?

Don’t let doubt fill your heart as you get older.

Dream again about God’s power.

Is there anything God can’t do?

Is there anything He can’t do for you?

Scripture Reading

Genesis 18:10-15 NIV

10 Then the LORD  said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son."

Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. 11 Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?"

13 Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' 14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son."

15 Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh."

But he said, "Yes, you did laugh."
