Power
Power for Life and Godliness
You have been
personally called by God and
He has elected you to
serve an eternal term
His divine power is
waiting for you
Just like the gold He
put in the ground at creation everything
You need for life and
godliness has already been provided,
You just have to go
get it
Power for Life and
Godliness
If you can’t get excited about 2 Peter,
Chapter 1, you better check your pulse.
Think about these 3 words…
“His divine power”
I can’t tell you how many times
I think about His divine power.
Every time I short circuit,
I become overwhelmed.
I may be standing on the ocean beach watching a sun set
or lying on the ground looking into the starry sky.
I marvel at the endurance of His creation.
I may be reading the scriptures and see the
consistence of His truth throughout all generations.
The power of His wisdom how it not only
made Solomon wise, but helps me, too.
As I walk through a cemetery the reality that thousands of
lives like mine stopped here, but Jesus is not in a tomb.
When I think of His divine power I realize after a life
of searching to know God I do not know Him at all.
I am sure that when I get to heaven…
I will not recognize God because my
knowledge of Him is so small.
“His divine power”
What does it do for you?
“Has given us
everything we
need for life and
godliness.”
“Everything”…
For life, He gives us the air to
breath and the ability to breathe it.
Every day the earth
is mined, it has
been mined from the beginning.
In Genesis 1, we read Eden was full of
gold and other precious materials.
Plants still produce fruit to eat.
You and I still have the ability to make
a living from the earth, even get rich.
Not only does His divine power
give us “life” but “godliness”.
Without God you have no moral compass.
There is a way that
seems right to a man,
but in the end it
leads to death.
Proverbs
16:25
The godliness has never hurt anyone.
The godliness keeps
our life from trouble.
There is wreckage everywhere
caused by a lack of godliness.
Think of all those who willingly suffered hardship,
even died because God’s divine power gave
them hope beyond this life, a life eternal.
The only way to receive this divine
power is through a knowledge of Jesus.
Jesus is calling all of us by His glory and
goodness to receive God’s divine power.
Countless promises are given to us so
we can participate in the divine nature.
Corruption and evil are overcome by His divine power.
Peter gives us some good advice to
receiving more of God’s divine power.
“…make every effort to
add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge,
self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance,
godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness,
love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep
you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus
Christ.”
2 Peter 2: 5-8
Did you catch verse 8…
“For if you possess these
qualities in increasing measure,
they
will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive”
As much as I hate being ineffective and unproductive, Peter
is talking about more than effectiveness in your labor.
Peter says…
“They will keep you
from being ineffective and unproductive
in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
There is a lot of books and internet helps.
Knowledge is everywhere but without the…
“Knowledge of our Lord
Jesus Christ”
All else is just short term survival.
Peter tells us…
“For if you do these
things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the
eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter
1:10,11
WOW!!! So make sure you get all God has called you to.
Your place He has elected for you.
You have been personally called by God and
He has elected you to serve an eternal term.
His divine power is waiting for you.
Just like the gold He put in the ground at creation
everything you need for life and godliness has
already been provided, you just have to go get it.
Scripture Reading
2 Peter 1:3-11 NIV
His divine power has given us everything we need for life
and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and
goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises,
so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the
corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your
faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control;
and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to
godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you
possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being
ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But
if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten
that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make
your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never
fall, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
