Power Prayer for “All Power”

Power

Prayer for “All Power”

All power and authority has been given to Jesus
Paul and those with him could not stop praying
For the saints in Colossse that they would be
“strengthened with all power according to his glorious might
We too should not forget who has “All Power”
And look to Jesus in prayer for the power we need
Pray for other believers, pray for your church
The prayer Paul prayed in Colossians 1:9-20
Do it today
Do it often
Let’s pray for more power

Prayer for “All Power”

Power what is it?

Jesus said in Acts 1:8…

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you

Power the Greek word used here is…

Dunamis (doo'-nam-is); force (literally or figuratively); specially,
miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself)

Dunamis comes from the word dunamai (doo'-nam-ahee);
of uncertain affinity; to be able or possible

To have power is confidence.

To be powerless is to be frustrated.

The older I get, the more
I appreciate power tools.

If I have to dig a hole,
I want a backhoe, not a shovel.

Firecrackers are fun to blowup cans,
but when you have a mountain to move
you want something with a lot more force.

Respect is power.

If no one will listen to you, you are powerless.

Power can be productive and destructive.

Power works in the natural as well as the spiritual.

I am sure you are like me, you want power.

I can push a button and power is released to
turn on my computer, a microwave or lights.

That is what I want…

Power at my fingertips.

The Bible uses the word power often.

So what can God’s Word tell us about “POWER”?

Paul the Apostle prays for the believers
in Colossae, an ancient city of Phrygia.

Paul says those who were with
him could not stop praying for…

God to fill you with the knowledge of his will
through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

They asked this in prayer…

in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord
and may please him in every way:
bearing fruit in every good work,
growing in the knowledge of God

Than Paul says…

being strengthened with all power according
to his glorious might strengthened with all power.

Paul reminds us of how glorious
God’s might or power is.

He reminds us that this invisible God,
invisible power does have an image.

The image is God’s Son Jesus.

He also tells us the Son has a Kingdom…

In which He has rescued us from a life
of powerless “the dominion of darkness”.

Paul reminds us of the power of God
who created the heavens and the earth.

The visible and invisible.

 Thrones, powers, rulers, authorities; all
things were created by him and for him.

God not only created all things,
 He holds them together.

For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in him

Power to create with His word
the heavens and the earth.

Power to redeem fallen mankind.

Where did Paul look for power for the people?

Paul looked to God in Prayer.

As the Scriptures say…

Every knee shall bow and every tongue
will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Romans 14:11; Philippians 2:10

Jesus said in Matthew 28:18-20…

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

We, too, should not forget who has “All Power”.

Look to Jesus in prayer for the power we need.

Pray for other believers, pray for your church the prayer
Paul prayed in Colossians 1:9-20…

Do it today.

 Do it often.

Let’s pray for more power.

Scripture Reading

Colossians 1:9-13 NIV
9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
