Jesus’ Words in Red Before His Departure Wait and Go

Jesus’ Words in Red Before His Departure

Wait and Go

“but wait for the gift my Father promised” and
"Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation

You and I need to Wait and Go
Don’t wait in a way you never go
Don’t go until you wait on the Lord
Every day God is sending us out into the world
Did you hear from Him and are you full of confidence?
Than “GO”

Wait and Go

Jesus says… “Wait”

"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait
for the gift my Father promised”
Acts 1:4

Waiting was temporary.

Waiting had a purpose.

The purpose was they were to wait for…

“gift my Father promised…
be baptized with the Holy Spirit"
Acts 1:4, 5

“you will receive power when
the Holy Spirit comes on you”
Acts 1:8

“stay in the city until you have been
clothed with power from on high."
Luke 29:49

We should note two things about waiting...

The purpose of waiting was to
equip us as disciples to “GO”.

Too often we go without waiting.

If you have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit you should
know the Bible also says be Filled with the Spirit.

Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
opens the door of power to become a witness.

Being born of the Spirit opens the door
of salvation and change of character.

To be a powerful witnesses we
need the Power of the Spirit.

We not only see in Acts 2 that the disciples
were clothed as the Holy Spirit came upon them,
but they were also filled with the Holy Spirit.

If you and I have received Salvation and the Baptism
in the Holy Spirit, we can still become spiritually dry.

Imagine becoming a police officer.

You pass the law enforcement entrance
examine and graduate from the police academy.

Next you receive your badge and uniform.

But you are not ready to go out into the streets.

Why?

You need to be full of inner confidence.

Police officers are people
too, they have bad days.

They got into an argument at home
or unexpected bills came or sickness.

If the police officer is distracted by these
things it will greatly affect the power and
authority that comes with the uniform.

Police officers see the worst of the worst and their
hope of making a difference can be affected.

Police officers need encouragement
daily to be full of power.

The Bible says encourage one another daily.

It says be filled with the Spirit speaking to
yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.

Once we are filled,
 we are to “GO”.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the ends of the earth."

We are told by Jesus in Luke 24:47, 48…

“repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached
in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 You are witnesses of these things”

Repentance and Forgiveness

When we become filled with the Holy
Spirit, we are to go with the message of
“repentance and forgiveness of sins”.

The disciples in the upper room
waited but they did not go.

And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.”
Luke 24:53

It is a wonderful thing to stay
at the Holy Spirit filling station.

Together with the encouragement of
one another and great worship music.

But the command was to “Wait” and “GO”.

Because the disciple stayed in Jerusalem
and did not go to the ends of the earth…

God used persecution to move
them and the disciples were
scattered throughout the earth.

Under pressure they preached…
 “repentance and forgiveness of sins

You and I need to Wait and Go.

Don’t wait in a way you never go.

Don’t go until you wait on the Lord.

Every day God is sending us out into the world.

Did you hear from Him and
are you full of confidence?

Than “GO”!

Scripture Reading

Acts 1:1-9 NIV
1:1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

6 So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"

7 He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Luke 24:45-53 NIV
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
