The Table of the Lord

The Table of the Lord

How often do you go to the table of the Lord?

What Does the Bread…

What does the Cup…

mean to you?

Out of all the annual celebrations
the greatest is not my birthday.

It’s not even Jesus’ birthday.

It’s Resurrection Sunday!

Jesus never told us to celebrate His birthday,
even though I think it is a great idea.

But He did tell us to celebrate
His death, burial and resurrection.

He gave us two ordinances
so we would not forget what He had done.

Water Baptism and Communion

Paul the Apostle said as often as you
eat the bread and drink the cup
you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

It seems that the early church celebrated
communion daily from home to home.

Sandy and I have been enjoying this celebration nightly
in preparation of celebrating Resurrection Sunday.

Each night we remind ourselves in prayer
of something Jesus did in His body
as we eat the unleavened bread.

And we recall the powerful truths
God’s Word speaks about blood
as we drink from the cup.

The ultimate focus of our prayer is this:

As the bread and the fruit of the vine digest
they become part of our body to produce health and strength,
so also Jesus become more a part of us.

(They say you are what you eat.)

David in Psalms 23 says,
the Lord prepares a table for us
in the midst of our enemies.

No matter what you are going through
God will meet you at the table.

His body was broken for you!

His blood was poured out for you!

Come have supper at the Lord’s table tonight.

Scripture Reading

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NIV

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,
24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said,
"This is my body, which is for you;
do this in remembrance of me."

25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,
"This cup is the new covenant in my blood;
do this, whenever you drink it,
in remembrance of me."

26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
