I have noticed some new billboards as I have driven down the highway.

It’s a picture of a teenage girl sitting down holding her legs,
with her face between her knees.

The holes in her jeans expose her knees
and written on her knees are words like:

Stupid - Worthless

You don’t have to be a teenager
to be effected by discouraging words.

In Revelation 12:10, we discover that
the devil brings accusations against you and me.

We know he is a liar, but yet,
his accusations discourages us.

The devil puts those discouraging words
in your thoughts and in the mouths of other.

They not only hurt but keep us from a fulfilled and purposeful life.

According to Hebrews 3:13,
a day without encouragement
will bring on a harden and bitter heart.

In Hebrews 10:24 & 25 in the NIV,
we need to consider how to stir love and good works
as we encourage one another.

The word Encourage means to “give courage”.

In order to meet the need for encouragement,
we need more than encouraging words;
we need to make it our lifestyle.

In Acts 4:36, we find a man named Joseph, or Joses,
the Apostles called him Barnabas, which means son of encouragement.

Barnabas’ character was so filled by giving others
encouragement that he was given a new name.

We are not talking about flattering words.

We are talking about seeing people like God sees them.

We are talking about speaking about the value God has placed on them.

Speaking words that help people become all God has purposed for them.

In order to do this right, you have to understand what God’s Word says
about people and pray for a Godly understanding of people you are around.

The best place to start is in your family.

Begin to honor others, after all,
whether they realize it or not - they are God’s servant.

Remember faith comes by hearing and hearing by God’s Word.

Let others hear from you what God thinks of them and
this will give them the courage to become all God wants them to be.

Get started today because the devil has all ready got a head start.

Scripture Reading

Acts 4:36-37 NIV

36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas
(which means Son of Encouragement), 37 sold a field he owned
and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet.

Hebrews 3:13-14 NIV

13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today,
so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

Hebrews 10:23-25 NIV

24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love
and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together,
as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another
— and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Romans 12:9-19 NIV

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
Honor one another above yourselves.
11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13 Share with God's people who are in need.
Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
16 Live in harmony with one another.
Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.
Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.
18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath,
for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
