The Blessing
By William M. Self, Sr.
If you are not blessing others
With the gift of
eternal life
Your blessing is lacking
You Have to be Blessed to be a Blessing
Lack is a horrible word.
It is no fun lacking energy,
money, time, vision, etc.
But maybe the most painful thing to be
lacking in our lives is the ability to help others.
The ability to be a blessing.
I think this is why God intends for every
blessing He gives to become a double blessing.
God said to Abraham…
“I will bless you;
I will make your name
great,
and you will be a
blessing.”
Blessings from God come to make us a blessing.
You and I were never meant to be a cup or a bowl.
We were meant to be a pipe.
We were not meant to contain God’s blessings…
We were meant to be a conduit
for the blessing to flow through.
Paul in Acts 20:35…
“Remember the words of
the Lord Jesus, that He said,
'It
is more blessed to give than to receive.'”
Paul said he worked hard to provide for
himself so he would not be a burden on anyone.
If our life is like a cup it is meant to overflow…
“Never minister out of
your cup
but out of your saucer”
Paul saw the blessing was God’s Words of Life.
He said he presented the Good News…
So that he would be “innocent
of the blood of all men”.
If you are blessed by God you
have the good news and eternal life.
You and I have not
blessed anyone until
we have given them
that blessing.
So are you a single-focused blessing person?
Or, a double blessing person?
Is the blessing you give temporary or eternal?
Paul worked hard not to be lacking…
How about you and I?
Scripture Reading
Genesis
12:1-3 NIV
The Lord had
said to Abram, "Leave your country,
your people and your father's household
and go to
the land I will show you.
2 "I
will make you into a great nation
and I will
bless you;
I will make
your name great,
and you will
be a blessing.
3 I will
bless those who bless you,
and whoever
curses you I will curse;
and all
peoples on earth
will be
blessed through you."
Acts
20:25-35 NKJV
25 "And
indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom
of God, will see my face no more. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I
am innocent of the blood of all men. 27
For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. 28 Therefore
take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has
made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His
own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come
in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will
rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.
31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn
everyone night and day with tears.
32 "So
now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able
to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
33 I have coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. 34 Yes, you yourselves
know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were
with me. 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must
support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It
is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
