Where Does Your Blessing Come From?

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

Blessings come in all sizes and shapes

Abraham was now old and well advanced in years,
and the Lord had blessed him in every way. Genesis 24:1

How are you doing in “Every Way

Where Does Your Blessing Come From?

Have you ever been at a birthday party or sat around
the Christmas tree when the gifts are being opened…

When the excitement is so great the tags
are lost in the unwrapping of the gifts?

Blessings come in layers.

Too often, we only see the last layer.

We get so excited about the package, we
forget the blessing starts with the giver.

We must be careful we are not just
“grateful for” but “grateful to”.

God said to Abraham…I will bless you.”

Abraham increased in earthly possessions.

Most of us would call that the blessing.

But Abraham’s focus was on the Blesser.

What could be dearer to Abraham than his son?

A son he waited for, for a 100 years.

A son that was the blessing from God.

When God required Abraham to give up
his blessing, Abraham obeyed.

He obeyed because he knew the Blesser
was greater than the blessing.

God again blessed Abraham’s obedience…

By not only giving back his son,
but a second time reinstated the blessing God
promised to him when he left his home land.

Sometimes we have to let go of the blessings
in order to receive more blessing.

We cannot be hoarders of God’s blessing.

Freely we have received, freely we are to give.

We brought nothing into the world and we will not
take any of the earthly possessions out of this world.

Abraham discovered that God never runs out of blessings.

Abraham’s obedience removed the
hindrances to the flow of blessings.

The scriptures say…

“Abraham was now old and well advanced in years,
and the Lord had blessed him in every way.”

“Every way”

God wants to bless you in every way.

So let’s be obedient in every way of life.

and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.

I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.

and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you."

Genesis 22:15-18 NIV
The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time
16 and said, "I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because
you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,
17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants
as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.
Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,
18 and through your offspring all nations on earth
will be blessed, because you have obeyed me."
