The Blessing
By William M. Self, Sr.
The rainbow is a sign of a blessing and covenant
Opposite the dark storm is the sun and in the water droplets
God reflects His light to remind us
“His mercies are new
every morning”
The darker the back drop the more brilliant the rainbow
The Rainbow Blessing
The rainbow with its red, orange, yellow, green,
blue, indigo, and violet colors are a sight to behold.
One of the earliest blessings in the Bible came with a
rainbow.
God blessed Noah and his sons and all the
created things that came out of the ark.
This blessing was a covenant God
made with every living creature.
This blessing recognized the life blood in man
and animals and the accountability of the blood.
Not only was God saying He would never again
bring total destruction to every living thing by water…
He required man to give account
of the blood of every living thing.
Maybe that is the reason the rainbow starts
with the color red and when there is a double
rainbow, the red of each bow face each other.
Hopefully, you have
never gone through a storm
that has destroyed
life and property.
The absence of light, the darkness filling
our world in those storms is frightening.
Storms are a reminder of God’s judgment and
“the rain falls on the just and the unjust”.
Opposite the dark storm is the sun and
in the water droplets God reflects His light to
remind us “His mercies
are new every morning”.
The darker the back drop the more brilliant the rainbow.
“All rainbows are
full circles, however, the
average observer only sees approximately the
upper
half of the arc: 'the illuminated droplets
above the horizon from the observers
line of sight'”

God’s covenant He made with Noah and every
living person and creature is like the rainbow.
You and I generally only see half of the rainbow.
But the bow is a circle never ending.
We thank you Lord that through your wrath
and anger you made provision of life for us.
Like a double rainbow, our life blood
is covered with the blood of Christ.
Help us to be in position to see the blessing.
Scripture
Reading
Genesis
9:1-6 NIV
9 Then God blessed
Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and
fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of
the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along
the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. 3
Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the
green plants, I now give you everything.
4 "But
you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. 5 And for your lifeblood
I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every
animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his
fellow man.
6
"Whoever sheds the blood of man,
by man shall
his blood be shed;
for in the image
of God
has God made
man.
Genesis
9:12-17 NIV
12 And God
said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and
every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I
have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant
between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the
rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and
you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become
a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I
will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God
and all
living creatures of every kind on the earth."
17 So God
said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between
me
and all life
on the earth."
