What is Your Vision When it Comes to Being a Blessing?

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

“I will bless you; …and you will be a blessing”

“All peoples on earth will be blessed through you”

Are you a pond or does your blessing flow to the ends of the earth?

What is Your Vision When it
Comes to Being a Blessing?

Ponds are meant to hold water.

They are to retain water and its
value is limited to its location.

Rivers are meant to distribute the water.

A river distributes water,
but a pond retains it.

God gives us some neat words in Malachi.

“See if I will not throw open the floodgates
of heaven and pour out so much blessing
that you will not have room enough for it.”
Malachi 3:10-11 NIV

Wow!!! That is a description of blessing!

Heavens gates open and the blessing
is so large you cannot retain it.

There is something that is never
satisfied and that is “more”.

How do you measure “more”?

It would seem that the best way is
put it all in one place, like a pond.

The problem is “more” wants to dig
deeper ponds or build higher banks.

Unlike a pond, “more” is hard to measure
in a river, because it continually is flowing.

Every blessing that flows in, flows out.

The Malachi Principle is if we give 10 %,
God will cause the blessings to be greater
than our ability to retain it.

God wants to give blessings where
blessings will do the most good.

God’s intention for blessings
is to make you a blessing.

This is what God said to Abraham…

“I will bless you; …and you will be a blessing.”

All God’s blessings come with this disclaimer…

“Freely you have received freely give.”

God gave Abraham a vision for blessing…

That “all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”

How far does your river flow?

Are you a pond or does your blessing
flow to the ends of the earth?

A dammed river is a pond.

Scripture Reading

Genesis 12:1-3 NIV

The Lord had said to Abram,
"Leave your country, your people and
 your father's household and
go to the land I will show you.

2 "I will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you."
