Promise of Rest
By William M. Self
God’s Word is Truth
You cannot change the truth
But the truth can change you
Handle it with everyone
As if you were speaking to God
Lies cause hurt, anger, insecurity and a lot of unrest.
The Bible says…“Many will follow their shameful ways and
will
bring the way of truth into disrepute.” 2 Peter 2:2 NIV
We have all trusted people and
many of them well-meaning people.
But what they said they would do, did not happen
or did not happen the way they said it would.
Each time this happens it…
“Will bring
the way of truth into disrepute.”
Disrepute: The state of being held
in low esteem by the public.
Not only is the person discredited, but Truth itself.
The
Greek word for disrepute is
blasphemeo meaning “Blaspheme”.
When
Jesus said… “Everyone
on the side
of truth listens to me Pilate said
What is truth?”
That
same question is still being asked today…
“What is truth?”
We live
in a world where “truth
is relative”.
It is
the belief that there are no absolutes,
“truth is always relative to some
particular frame of reference”.
The
Bible talks about those who “wander from the truth”.
True freedom and rest comes only by living in the truth.
Jesus in John 17 prayed… “Sanctify them by the truth”.
The only thing that makes you and
I clean or purifies us is “Truth”.
Jesus goes on to say God’s “Word is Truth”.
Jesus said… “I sanctify myself,
that
they too may be truly sanctified.”
Jesus not only knew the Word of God,
He lived it so others
would know the truth.
We find some very good instruction about truth in 2 Timothy
2…
“Do
your best to present yourself to God”
Whatever you say or do to others do it as looking into the
face of God.
The Bible is the “Word
of Truth”.
God spoke it and He knows what He said and what He meant.
You and I will never
be ashamed if we correctly handle God’s Word.
You cannot change the truth...
But the truth can change you.
Get sanctified and get rest…
And the truth will set you free.
Scripture Reading
John
17:17-19 NIV
17 Sanctify
them by the truth;
your word is
truth.
18 As you
sent me into the world,
I have sent
them into the world.
19 For them
I sanctify myself, that
they too may
be truly sanctified.
2 Timothy
2:15 NIV
15 Do your
best to present yourself
to God as one approved,
a workman
who does
not need to
be ashamed
and who
correctly handles
the word of truth.
