Promise of Rest
By William M. Self
And be led in Peace
Have Faith in God’s Word
Nothing can void it
The promise God makes to us of
rest comes from His
Word.
In times of unrest we need hope.
The hope that gives us peace comes through faith.
Finding assurance to believe things will work out.
God speaks, He has given his Word.
In Romans it says…
“Faith comes from hearing the message, and
the message is heard through the word of
Christ.”
The Message Bible does a good job of
communicating the
heart of Isaiah.
"Does anyone care, God? Is anyone
listening
and
believing a word of it?" Romans.10:16
God had given us His Word.
The Bible is available in print and to anyone who has the
internet.
It is hard to image a place where the Good News is not
preached.
The problem isn’t a lack of God’s Word.
The question is… “Is anyone
listening and believing?”
The promise of rest can only be realized if we
combine what we heard from God with faith.
As I was writing this devotional, I needed to
talk to someone who had been avoiding my calls.
He knew what I needed to tell him.
Because he did not want to do what needed
to be done, he did not answer the phone.
I told Sandy we needed to agree in prayer.
We did and before I left the room we prayed in,
this man called me
and a crisis was averted.
Listen to God’s Word and combine it with faith.
We can avoid many crises by knowing God’s
Word and allowing it to shape the way we believe.
We should not become discouraged if
we see others are not paying attention.
Isaiah speaking for God said…
“So is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and
achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy and be led
forth in peace” Isaiah 55:11, 12 NIV
Put your faith in God’s Word and
“You will go out in joy and be led with peace”
Scripture Reading
Hebrews
4:1-2 NIV
1 Therefore,
since the promise of entering his rest still stands,
let us be careful that none of you be found to
have fallen short of it.
2 For we
also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did;
but the
message they heard was of no value to them,
because
those who heard did not combine it with faith.
Hebrew
11:1-2 NIV
1 Now faith
is being sure of what we hope
for and
certain of what we do not see.
Romans
10:16-17 Msg
16 But not
everybody is ready for this, ready to see and hear and act.
Isaiah asked
what we all ask at one time or another:
"Does
anyone care, God? Is anyone listening and believing a word of it?"
17 The point
is, Before you trust, you have to listen.
But unless
Christ's Word is preached, there's nothing to listen to.
Romans
10:17-18 NIV
17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the
message,
and the
message is heard through the word of Christ.
