God’s Word to the Woman
It is true after the fall, submission and love have been abused
The role of the Husband and Wife has failed and hardship has increased
In the end what God meant for blessing
We have turned into a curse by our disobedience
Sadly, we see a world of increased pain and sorry
We have lost sight of what God intended before the fall
Yes, wives fail and husbands fail
But let us not give up hope in doing what God intended before the fall
Let’s not give up on the families God intended us to have
Genesis 3:16 is not God’s final word to women
God’s Word is full of blessing and love for the Woman of God
God’s Word to the Woman
Much debate has been given on Genesis 3:16.
A doctrine on this verse alone should not be made.
Looking at the whole of verse 16,
we see it is speaking about “Family”…
Women having children
and the role of the husband.
We should note that the preceding verse 15 tells us
of Satan’s attack on the women and her children.
We should also keep in mind
God’s blessing in Genesis 1:28.
God blessed them and said to them,
"Be fruitful and increase in number;
fill the earth and subdue it.
God intended having children
and family to be a blessing.
Genesis 3:16…
God says to the woman with the process of child
bearing there will be an increase of pain and sorrow.
There are two things I am not sure
of as I am not a Hebrew scholar…
As I read this verse in Hebrew,
it looks to me as if the words “I will”
are not in the Hebrew which
are in the English versions.
The verse seems to start out with the
Hebrew word for increase or multiply twice.
Thus reading…
“Increase, increase your pain…”
If this is true, than it is not God increasing
the pain it is a matter of fact.
Or, is related to verse 15 and
Satan’s attack on the woman.
The question of increase in child
birth pain has to be asked, “When”?
Is the increase pain meaning if Eve gave
birth before the fall, she would have had
less pain or the pain of childbirth will
increase over time in the future?
The takeaway is this…
Because of the fall bringing children
into the world will come with suffering,
but children are a blessing from the Lord.
Psalms 127:3
As to Genesis 3:16…
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you."
We must also look to other scriptures.
Before the fall God said man
needed a “suitable helper”.
Genesis 2:18
The LORD God said,
"It is not good for the man to be alone.
I will make a helper suitable for him."
God made woman to be a
suitable helper to the husband.
Adam understood the woman God
made from his rib was part of him…
The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man."
Genesis 2:23
Adam saw the connection
of being one with his wife.
This is why Paul in referring to this verse says…
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. Ephesians 5:28-30
Adam knew in the same way he
treated his wife, he was treating himself.
Paul also reveals submission
is not a curse, but a blessing.
Paul starts his dialog about wives and husbands
with all of us needing to be submissive…
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Ephesians 5:21
Submission is a part of all of our lives,
if we want to walk in blessing.
Paul describes the blessing of marriage
and its roles for the wife and the husband.
In summary…
Wives submit to your husband as unto the Lord.
And husbands love your wife as Christ loves the church.
What could be wrong with that?
Paul ends with…
However, each one of you also must
love his wife as he loves himself,
and the wife must respect her husband.
Ephesians 5:33
I believe Paul deliberately changes the
word to “respect” to describe what to submit is…
To give us a glimpse into what submission looks like.
It is true after the fall,
submission and love have been abused.
The role of the Husband and Wife has
failed and hardship has increased.
In the end what God meant for blessing,
we have turned it into a curse by our disobedience.
Sadly, we see a world of increased pain and sorrow
and have lost sight of what God intended before the fall.
Yes, wives fail and husbands fail.
But let us not give up hope in doing
what God intended before the fall.
Let’s not give up on the families God intended us to have.
Genesis 3:16 is not God’s final word to women.
God’s Word is full of blessing
and love for the Woman of God.
John 16:21-23 NIV…
A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
Scripture Reading
Genesis 3:16 AMP
16 To the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your grief and your suffering in pregnancy and the pangs of childbearing; with spasms of distress you will bring forth children. Yet your desire and craving will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.
Ephesians 5:21-33 NIV
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32 This is a profound mystery — but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
