James
Is anyone sick?
All of us know what it is to be sick
Every one of us has been sick from something
How do you define health?
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being
and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
There is a lot in this world to make us sick and rob us of our peace
Jesus came to make us whole to give us peace
He came healing the sick
So if any one of us is sick, realize God wants to heal you spirit, soul and body
He wants to give you wholeness and peace
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 I think sums up healing
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
I hope our cry for healing is a cry for our whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

All of us are thinking every day of how
to stay healthy or how to get well.
So when James asks the question…
“Is any one of you sick?”
He has the attention of all of us.
How do you define health?
Health is…
A state of complete physical, mental and social well-
being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
The Hebrew word for Health is…
aruwkah
Restoring to soundness, wholeness
Examples Jeremiah 30:17; 33:6
In the New Testament, 3 John 2
the Greek word is hugiaino…
To be safe sound whole
I think the word “Peace” in the sense of the Hebrew
word “Shalom” embraces the full meaning of health.
Shalom meaning…
Peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity,
welfare and tranquility and can be used
idiomatically to mean both hello and goodbye.
There are only two places where
the wholeness of health exists…
The Garden of Eden and the
Eternal Heaven, the book ends of life.
God created us in the garden, the
full expression of health and peace.
Before Adam and Eve ate of the
forbidden fruit and got a bellyache…
Before they lost their peace and hid from God…
They lost the wholeness of their mind.
Their sickness started with wrong thinking.
I remember working at Jeep, my
shoulder and arm was in great pain.
I would wake up at night in
tears with this extreme pain.
One day at work we found out my spot
welder, a large and heavy copper gun
was set up for a man much large than me.
After the gun was adjusted to
my size, the pain went away.
As long as I was doing the same thing
every day, the pain would come back.
I had to do things differently to keep my healing.
Finding the answer to our health is not always
easy when we are looking at the symptoms.
I think we should understand that God’s
desire of our healing is not to cover up
the pain with an aspirin…
But to bring wholeness to us by getting
to the issues that causes the pain.
That is why John says…
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health
and that all may go well with you,
even as your soul is getting along well.
3 John 2
So before we call for the elders as James says…
We need to make sure we see health and
healing as more than taking away pain.
Jesus said…
"I have told you these things,
so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart!
I have overcome the world."
John 16:33
There is a lot in this world to make
us sick and rob us of our peace.
Jesus came to make us whole, to give us peace.
He came healing the sick.
So if any one of us is sick…
Realize God wants to heal you
spirit, soul and body.
He wants to give you wholeness and peace.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 I think sums up healing…
May God himself, the God of peace,
sanctify you through and through.
May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless
at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
I hope our cry for healing is a cry for our
whole spirit, soul and body be kept
blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Shalom
Scripture Reading
James 5:13-16 NIV
13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
