Swearing
Control
As great as our
emotions are they need to be controlled and work together with our God given
ability to reason and use common sense
When it comes to our emotions our first
response is generally our worst response
We all need time to
think and process emotions
The Bible says
My dear brothers, take note of this:
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become
angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God
desires.
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent
and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:19-21
Swearing
Control
Profane words have a direct line to our emotions.
They are a spontaneous reflection of strong
emotional states, like anger, fear or passion.
They are also unequaled in their capacity to inflict
emotional pain and incite violent disagreement.
In short, bad words are powerful—emotionally,
physiologically, psychologically and socially.
Profanity is powerful, and it
behaves differently from other types of language.
For some, swear words are rare.
For others, like a friend I used to work with
every sentence had one to four “F” words.
For him they were filler words like
some of us who use the word “and” & “so”.
He told me he could control his profanity
and said he did when around his kids, but
felt no need to control his tongue at work
and other places away from children.
I did doubt his ability to control
because he used no control at work.
This person got into a lot of fights because it was
not just his tongue he did not control, but his emotions.
It became clear to me that the profanity from his
tongue was just a release of uncontrolled emotions within.
Doctors tried to help him with drugs so he could
better control the lack of controlling his emotions.
We are becoming a society that expresses our emotions.
The other day I was standing in the street
and I heard a loud voice inside a house.
The loud voice was coming from
a father swearing at his adult child.
I know this man, he is a hard man to logically
have a conversation with when he disagrees.
He becomes illogical and allows his emotions
to threaten like a dog who barks.
When our feelings of anger, fear
or passion stir in our emotions…
Those feeling are hard to deal with.
Some of us bottle it up and others erupt.
Both types of people are in emotional
pain and will inflict emotional pain.
So what is the answer?
God made us with emotions but
He did not make us emotional.
Emotions are good because they bring out passion,
gives us the ability to fear danger, and hate wrong.
As great as our emotions are, they need to
be controlled and work together with our God
given ability to reason and use common sense.
When it comes to our
emotions, our first
response is generally our worst response.
We all need time to think and process emotions.

James
1:19-21
If you are the type of person who emotionally
erupts, find ways to slow down.
Be slow to speak.
Take time to think.
Be quick to listen, ask the other person to
repeat themself or to explain it another way with
an attitude that shows you want to understand.
Remember it does not matter whether the other
person is right or wrong, what matters is under-
standing so you are both working on the same issues.
It is your choice…
You can let your
emotions speak
and sound like a barking dog.
Or, you can in humility seek
wisdom for the best outcome.
God promises to give wisdom to anyone who asks.
Scripture Reading
James 1:19-21 NIV
19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be
quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 for man's anger
does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid
of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word
planted in you, which can save you.
James 1:2-8 NIV
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face
trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith
develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be
mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom , he
should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will
be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he
who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man
should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a
double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
