Watch Your Language!
Does your language reflect your control,
or God’s?
How long will your words last?
Jesus’ Words are lasting forever!
In the life time of Peleg, the earth was divided. Genesis 10:25
Peleg was born 197 years after the flood
and died 406 years after the flood.
Noah lived 350 years after the flood
making it possible for him to be alive
at the time of the tower of Babel.
One language,
one people,
but wrong purpose!
God’s command to man had been to fill the earth.
This command came to Adam, Noah, and the Church (Acts 1:8).
At the tower
of Babel,
God confused the language of the people
to stop them from
becoming a unified people
with their own way to heaven.
Many people have come up with ways to heaven
and because they sound good,
many groups of people
have unified around those beliefs.
But Jesus makes it clear when He declares:
"I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through
me.”
John 14:6 NIV
It is interesting to note
that when Jesus said to His disciples,
“Go into all the world”
He tells them to first
wait in Jerusalem
until the power of the Holy Spirit
comes on them with power.
When the Holy Spirit came on them in Acts 2,
they began to speak in other languages.
Many times we, too, get caught up
in projects that will get us recognized.
But God has a better purpose for you and I.
His purpose is that we become part of His Church
and build lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ!
When Jesus commissioned His disciples,
the Holy Spirit gave them the ability
to speak in other languages.
People had been confused
since the Tower
of Babel,
until they heard the 120 in the upper room
speaking the wonderful works of God
in their own language. Acts 2:11
As you and I become part of the Church,
we are not becoming part of a building,
but human structure to give glory to God.
Unity is a key word.
You and I are asked to accept
many thing in life to be united.
Unity is good;
but it must
have the right purpose.
What we speak must line up with what God speaks.
May God’s Word fill the earth as we speak.
Scripture Reading
Genesis 11:1-9 NLT
At one time the whole
world spoke a single language
and used the same
words.
2 As the people
migrated eastward,
they found a plain in
the land of Babylonia and settled there.
3 They began to talk
about construction projects.
"Come,"
they said,
"let's make
great piles of burnt brick
and collect natural
asphalt to use as mortar.
4 Let's build a great
city with a tower that reaches to the skies
— a monument to our
greatness!
This will bring us
together
and keep us from
scattering all over the world."
5 But the LORD came
down to see the city
and the tower the
people were building.
6 "Look!"
he said.
"If they can
accomplish this
when they have just
begun to take advantage
of their common
language and political unity,
just think of what they will do later.
Nothing will be
impossible for them!
7 Come, let's go down
and give them different languages.
Then they won't be
able to understand each other."
8 In that way,
the LORD scattered
them all over the earth;
and that ended the
building of the city.
9 That is why the
city was called Babel,
because it was there
that the LORD
confused the people
by giving them many languages,
thus scattering them
across the earth.
