The Pregnancy Test - Don’t Let the Test Results Fool You

The Pregnancy Test

Don’t Let the Test Results Fool You

The doctors told my daughter Sarah, she should have an abortion.
Her health condition made it unsafe for her and the baby.
With fear, Sarah and Tim chose to trust God with the outcome.
They could not make the choice of death for their unborn child.
They acted on their faith in God, and chose not to abort the baby.
Many of you acted in faith by joining them in prayer.
Mackenzie was born December 31, 2008.
God was greater than the test results!

Abram with all his wealth
finds a deep emptiness.

All he had acquired in life
would go to a slave in his house.

Abram had no children;
no family to carry on his legacy.

The grief and disappointment
weights upon him
as he realizes
that the years of having children
have passed him and Sarai.

God had told him
he would become a great nation
and promised him land.

All these words from God
had to have fed his desire
to have a son.

Abram has no desire for God
to give him anything else,
without the joy of knowing
he can pass it along to his son,
as an inheritance.

Things have lost their meaning.

Only leaving a legacy;
fulfilling the command
to Adam and Noah
mattered to him.

“Be fruitful and fill the earth.”

With hope gone,
God shows up in a vision
and says to Abram,

Genesis 15:4-5 NIV

4 Then the word of the LORD
came to him:
"This man will not be your heir,
but a son coming
from your own body
will be your heir."
5 He took him outside and said,
"Look up at the heavens
 and count the stars
 — if indeed you can count them."
Then he said to him,
"So shall your offspring be."

Month after month - year after year
and no pregnancy!

How many baby showers had
Sarai come home from
grieving her inability to have a child.

I have known many couples
who could not have children
and the grief was so great.

They would not come
to church on Mother’s Day
or attend baby celebrations,
because it would bring on
deep depression.

Yes, this was great news,
God would give Abram a son.

But could he believe the vision?

If anyone had reason to doubt,
Abram did.

If anyone could have questioned
God’s timing,
Abram could.

But Abram believed God.

“ Abram believed the LORD,
and he credited it
 to him as righteousness.”

Genesis 15:6 NIV

Abram choose to believe God
over the Pregnancy Test.

What God has spoken
we can believe in!

Scripture Reading

Genesis 15:1-6 NIV

15:1 After this, the word of the LORD
came to Abram in a vision:

"Do not be afraid, Abram.
I am your shield,
your very great reward."

2 But Abram said,
"O Sovereign LORD,
what can you give me since I remain childless
and the one who will inherit my estate
is Eliezer of Damascus?"
3 And Abram said,
"You have given me no children;
so a servant in my household will be my heir."

4 Then the word of the LORD came to him:
"This man will not be your heir,
but a son coming from your own body will be your heir."
5 He took him outside and said,
"Look up at the heavens and count the stars
— if indeed you can count them."
Then he said to him,
"So shall your offspring be."

6 Abram believed the LORD,
and he credited it to him as righteousness.
