Take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God

Take up the Sword of the Spirit
which is the Word of God

God will give us the victory, "keep your hands up!"

Ever wish you could walk up to Jesus
like the disciples did and ask a question?
Jesus did make a way for you and I
to get a fresh Word from God.
God calls it the “Sword of the Spirit.”
God’s Word is like a two edged sword.
Sharp enough to strike a deadly blow to your enemies.
And cut weights out of our lives.
But it’s a good idea to be in the Scripture
so that the Holy Spirit can bring the written Word
back to your remembrance in a fresh way.

Jesus knew it would be difficult
not having Him around to answer our questions.

So Jesus tells His disciples
that after He leaves to go back to the Father,
that God was going to make a way for us
to get our answers from God.

John 14:25-27 NIV

26 “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things
and will remind you of everything
I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you;
my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled
and do not be afraid.”

It is comforting
and it gives us a lot of peace
to know we are not left alone.

Part of the armor of God
mentioned in Ephesians 6 is the
Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.”

The reference to “the Word of God”
is not referring to the whole Bible,
as much as it is, referring to the Words
the Holy Spirit brings to our remembrance.

When we are in need
and under the enemies attack,
we don’t need a Bible to hit the devil over the head.

What we need is a Word from God
that fits the occasions.

We need a current Word.

The Holy Spirit is so good at this.

 He brings to our remembrance
a Word that is like a sharp sword
that cuts right to the need.

One day in February, 2009, when Sandy was going
through a tremendous trial, Ruth, a dear Christian friend,
told Sandy that in prayer that morning she was reminded
of Moses when Aaron and Hur held up his hands so that
Joshua would continue fighting and win the battle.
She said I think God wants the Body of Christ
to hold up your hands (Sandy).

That night in our home Marty’s Life Group was meeting
(about 25 young men).
At the end of their meeting they asked to pray for us.
Powerful prayers came from those young men and
several impressions were shared with us.
One of the impressions was the group needed to
hold up Sandy’s arms like Aaron and Hur did for Moses.

Can you believe that!!!

That was the “Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God”

A tremendous weight of anxiety
was cut off of Sandy and myself.

God had said to us,
I see you in the battle
and I am sending reinforcements.

We would have liked God
to have said you are healed,
but we will take comfort
and have found peace
in the Sword of the Spirit.

Scripture Reading

Ephesians 6:17-18 NIV

17 Take the helmet of salvation
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Exodus 17:5-16 NIV

5 The LORD answered Moses, "Walk on ahead of the people.
Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff
with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.
Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink."
So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7 And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled
and because they tested the LORD saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"

8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.
9 Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands."

10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered,
and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill.
11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning,
but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
12 When Moses' hands grew tired,
they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it.
Aaron and Hur held his hands up — one on one side, one on the other
— so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

14 Then the LORD said to Moses,
"Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered
and make sure that Joshua hears it,
because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."

15 Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.
16 He said, "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD.
The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation."
