Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:18-21
Patience and Control
I love to save money.
One way I do it is to get my gas at Sam’s Club.
The problem is everyone wants to
save money and goes to Sam’s Club.
To get gas…
I have to deal with
a love-hate relationship inside me.
When I get to the pump…
I have my phone app or credit card ready.
I take the cap off the same time
I am setting up the pump.
I am quick and fast because
I don’t want the person next in line to wait.
But that is not how everyone thinks.
I hate to wait.
Sitting in the line of cars.
I am watching everyone.
Then, there is the car in front of me
who has been waiting as long as I have but…
When they get to the pump
they sit in their car.
When they get out of the car,
they look around or are on their phone
and take forever to get that distance
of 4 feet from the car to the pump.
They are oblivious to the
long line of cars behind them.
When they get done pumping the gas
they stand in front of the pump
as if it were a slot machine
and are expecting a payout.
Than they sit in their car
for 30 seconds (half of eternity)
before driving off so I can get gas.
Some of you reading this are thinking…
I am very impatient.
And another group of you are saying…
That is right, stop wasting the time of others.
Sadly, gas wars are not only over prices
but caused by impatient people.
Impatience produces anger.
Anger can change your life quickly.
A word in anger can ignite a fight or war.
Proverbs 16:32 says…
Better a patient man than a warrior
Many lives have been destroyed
over a brief release of anger.
To be patient is to be self-controlled.
In our youth, we can look to our physical strength
to control the things we don’t want to tolerate.
We see this in our classrooms and in the streets.
We all have felt like hitting someone…
And many times for just cause.
But the one who has patience
and control over his temper will end well.
Short term satisfaction should never
out way long-term results.
We all get frustrated when
time and energy are wasted.
Our foolishness or the foolishness of others
is a spark to frustration.
It is very difficult to control your temper
when you are frustrated.
Patience takes time we don’t want to give.
To be a patient person who
controls their temper you need to…
Take a break.
Step away from the situation and breath.
Focus on making friends, not enemies.
Think future not just the moment.
Here is the big one…
PRAY!!!
Remember your enemy Jesus died for.
If you need to vent, God
can handle your venting.
BUT…
Don’t stop with venting.
Allow God to open your heart
and mind to personal change.
Imagine a two-sided chalkboard.
On one side God is writing the answer to the problem
and the other side you are writing your answer.
Then mentally turn the chalkboard
so you see God’s answer
and He can see yours.
Our spirit needs to be calmed when anger arises.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is…
Find a quiet place and take a nap or pace the floor.
Patience and a controlled temper
