Battle Against the Flesh Part IV
Jesus’ ministry from beginning to end
told us to Repent…
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach,
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
Matthew 4:17
Repentance can only come
as we hear God’s Word.
The Spirit will always lead you
by the Word of God.
Make Jesus Lord of your life.
That means every desire of the flesh
put under submission
being ruled over by God’s Word.
Battle Against the Flesh Part IV
The only way to avoid
the death sentence of the flesh is…
To be led by the Spirit.
Romans 8:12-15…
12 Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation — but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
We should note…
Prayer is important.
But prayer alone will not give you
what you need to overcome the flesh.
It is God’s Word.
Jesus knew the Words of His Father.
For both the people who lived before Christ
and those after, Christ told an Old Testament story to reveal a New Testament truth…
3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 8:3-4
4 Jesus answered, "It is written:
'Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Matthew 4:4
If you do not know God’s Word…
You will not be able to live by the Spirit.
Our minds must be renewed.
We must believe…
But how can we believe
if we have not heard the Words of God.
For faith come by hearing the Word of God.
A narrow knowledge of God’s Word
will lead to a storage unit
with both spiritual and carnal things…
Telling a story of a confused person
who could not die to the flesh.
Someone who wanted a spiritual desire for…
Peace, provision, and love from God.
But the desire for the things of this world,
sexual immorality, witchcraft,
and substance abuse, anger, greed etc…
Keep them from victory.
Jesus’ ministry from beginning to end

Scripture Reading
41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
Galatians 5:16-26 TLB
16 I advise you to obey only the Holy Spirit's instructions. He will tell you where to go and what to do, and then you won't always be doing the wrong things your evil nature wants you to. 17 For we naturally love to do evil things that are just the opposite from the things that the Holy Spirit tells us to do; and the good things we want to do when the Spirit has his way with us are just the opposite of our natural desires. These two forces within us are constantly fighting each other to win control over us, and our wishes are never free from their pressures. 18 When you are guided by the Holy Spirit, you need no longer force yourself to obey Jewish laws.
19 But when you follow your own wrong inclinations, your lives will produce these evil results: impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, 20 idolatry, spiritism (that is, encouraging the activity of demons), hatred and fighting, jealousy and anger, constant effort to get the best for yourself, complaints and criticisms, the feeling that everyone else is wrong except those in your own little group-and there will be wrong doctrine, 21 envy, murder, drunkenness, wild parties, and all that sort of thing. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control; and here there is no conflict with Jewish laws.
24 Those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to his cross and crucified them there.
25 If we are living now by the Holy Spirit's power, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. 26 Then we won't need to look for honors and popularity, which lead to jealousy and hard feelings.
