Matthew 9:9-34
Matthew 9:9-34 gives us the third set of stories where the Kingdom of Heaven
Jesus preached about came to people just like you and I
These set of stories show us how our faith
Can bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth
We get to see the faith of a father for his dead child
The faith of a woman with 12 years of affliction
And two blind men who see their need for mercy
We know their faith was extraordinary because if we put ourselves in their position
I am not sure how much faith we would have had
But the fact of the matter is each one of them received their need

Matthew chapters 8-10
Jesus brings the Kingdom of Heaven into people’s lives…
FAITH
After Matthew shares with us
the great Sermon on the Mount message
on the Kingdom of Heaven…
He gives us three sets of stories.
These stories demonstrate Jesus bringing
the Kingdom of Heaven to real people on earth.
The first set is three stories that fulfill
the words of the prophet Isaiah…
"He took up our infirmities
and carried our diseases."
Matthew 8:16-17
The Kingdom came to a man with leprosy
because Jesus was Willing.
The Kingdom of Heaven came because
the Centurion had Amazing Faith.
The Kingdom of Heaven came
and the response is to Serve.
The second set is three stories revealing
Authority of the Kingdom.
Jesus has Authority over the wind and waves.
Jesus has Authority over demons.
Jesus has Authority over sin.
All Authority in heaven and earth is given to Jesus.
Matthew 28:18
The Kingdom of Heaven is secure
because of Jesus’ Authority.
The third set of stories show us how our faith
brings the Kingdom of Heaven to earth.
But before Matthew shares these stories
he brings up the two words, “Follow Me”.
Jesus lets us know He is looking
for sinners to follow Him.
For I have not come to call the righteous,
but sinners.
Matthew 9:13
Jesus also points out that there is
a time for fasting and morning…
But don’t get stuck there when
the bridegroom is with you.
Jesus tells us it is time
for new wine and new wineskins.
Whether you were an Old Testament Jew
waiting for the coming Messiah
or a New Testament saint
waiting for Christ’s return…
There should be joy, excitement, expectation
not just doom and gloom.
Hebrews 11:1 in the NLT says…
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen;
it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.
It is this confidence and assurance
that keeps joy in the heart of the believer.
It is this joyful faith
we see in these next three stories.
The first story in this set of three
is a ruler who comes to Jesus and says…
"My daughter has just died.
But come and put your hand on her, and she will live."
Matthew 9:18
The second story is a woman affected for 12 years…
She said to herself,
"If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.
Matthew 9:21
The third story…
Two blind men following Jesus
calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!
Matthew 9:27
Jesus asked them,
"Do you believe that I am able to do this?"
"Yes, Lord," they replied.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
"According to your faith will it be done to you"
Matthew 9:28-29
We get to see the faith of a father for his dead child.
The faith of a woman with 12 years of affliction.
And two blind men who see their need for mercy.
We know their faith was extraordinary
because if we put ourselves in their position,
I am not sure how much faith we would have had.
But the fact of the matter is
each one of them received their need
from the Kingdom of Heaven.
We get a bonus story of faith
a man who could not talk
because he was demon-possessed.
Matthew 9:32-33
Remember what Jesus said at the start of these stories
when He spoke of New Wineskins and New Wine.
These stories end with…
The crowd was amazed and said,
"Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."
But the Pharisees said,
"It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons."
Matthew 9:33-34
Two responses.
If it is “New” it has not been seen before.
Don’t be like the Pharisees who did not believe.
Jesus encourages us to believe for things
that have not been seen before…
To see things in Heaven
and believe for those things
to be manifested in the earth.

9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
14 Then John's disciples came and asked him, "How is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?"
15 Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved."
18 While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him and said, "My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live." 19 Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.
20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."
22 Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.
23 When Jesus entered the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd, 24 he said, "Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep." But they laughed at him. 25 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. 26 News of this spread through all that region.
27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"
28 When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"
"Yes, Lord," they replied.
29 Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith will it be done to you"; 30 and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this." 31 But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
32 While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. 33 And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."
34 But the Pharisees said, "It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons."
