What a Friend we have in Jesus
Talking to Jesus
As parents and grandparents
We can do no better than to introduce our children to our Friend, Jesus
Through our friendship with Jesus
They can see how wonderful this friendship is
They see us in the good times and in the bad
When they see how our friendship with Jesus has helped us
They grow in a respect for our Friend
There is a lot of truth in the song, “Talking to Jesus” that helps us think about
The relationship Jesus wants with all of us and why Jesus is so special to us
Remember out of all the things Jesus is to you, He is your Friend
In all the ways you can communicate who Jesus is
The best way to communicate Him to others is to introduce Jesus as your Friend
Let your children and grandchildren
See you talking and walking with Jesus, your Friend
WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
What a Friend we have in Jesus
Talking to Jesus
In 2021, a new song came out…
“Talking to Jesus”
by Elevation Worship and Maveric City.
“Talking To Jesus” was co-written by…
Steven Furtick, Chris Brown, and Brandon Lake.
The track, led by Lake,
takes the listener on a journey from…
The first-person perspective of Pastor Furtick
recounting when he learned how to pray as a teenager.
The song connects four generations.
This song follows four generations of people
who pray to Jesus, including…
Grandma, Mom, Son/Daughter (Elevation & Maverick), and Child.
Grandma and Mom both give words of advice to Son/Daughter,
who passes them to their children.
The song nods to the familiar hymn with the refrain…
“What a Friend we Have in Jesus”
Carrying the message that,
even though life can become complicated…
God is always available for a relationship with His children.
The closing verse sums it up well…
“There’s no wrong way to do it
There’s no bad time start
Doesn’t have to sound pretty
Just tell Him what’s on your heart
Just start talking to Jesus…”
The message of this song is so profound.
Jesus is many things to us,
and each one of them is amazing.
But the song introduces Jesus
as maybe the most important one…
“A Friend”
As parents and grandparents…
We can teach our children and grandchildren about God.
We can give them knowledge from the scriptures.
All of this is good.
The song isn’t about knowledge…
It is about the heart.
It is about a friendship.
A Friend we can talk to.
A Friend we can be with.
This song has helped me see what
kept me walking with Jesus all my life.
Because of my grandparents and parents,
I have known God from birth.
As far back as I can remember…
I have known Jesus as my Friend.
There is nothing greater to me than
to know Jesus as my Friend.
It is this friendship relationship
that has kept me with Him all my life.
It has been through this friendship
I have come to know Him
and know more about Him.
As parents and grandparents…
We can do no better than to introduce our children
to our Friend, Jesus.
Through our friendship with Jesus…
They can see how wonderful this friendship is.
They see us in the good times and in the bad.
When they see how our friendship with Jesus has helped us…
They grow in a respect for our Friend.
There is a lot of truth in the song…
“Talking to Jesus”
That helps us think about the relationship Jesus wants
with all of us and why Jesus is so special to us.
Remember out of all the things Jesus is to you…
He is your Friend.
In all the ways you can communicate who Jesus is…
The best way to communicate Him to others is to…
Introduce Jesus as your Friend.
Let your children and grandchildren see you…
Talking and walking with Jesus, your Friend.

Scripture Reading
John 15:12-17 NIV
12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit — fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 17 This is my command: Love each other.
