Did I Say That?

Did I Say That?

Someone once said to me

“Everybody interprets the Bible differently”

This person was challenging my interpretation of the Bible

Why should my options hold more weight than someone else’s?

Is the Bible worthless because it is interrupted differently by everyone?

If the Bible can be made to mean whatever we want it to say, than it is worthless

The Bible is worthless if it can be interpreted any way we want

But if we seek to understand the intent of the Author

It has the most valuable words given to man

Because His Word will always guide you into all truth

His Word will teach you how to live life right

Life is short, so don’t get it wrong

Did I Say That?

Someone once said to me…

“Everybody interprets the Bible differently.”

This person was challenging

my interpretation of the Bible.

Why should my options hold more weight

than someone else’s?

Is the Bible worthless because

it is interrupted differently by everyone?

If the Bible can be made to mean

whatever we want it to say,

 than it is worthless.

So, is the Bible worthless?

Let’s examine.

We must examine who is the Author.

No one has the right to take someone else’s words

and make them mean anything they want.

If someone paraphrased something you said

giving what you said a different meaning…

 You would be offended.

The first point about the Bible

we must agree on is, the Author.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV…

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,

rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

All Scripture is God breathed.

So the person using God’s Word

must say it the way God said it,

and meant it.

There is a correct way

and a wrong way to handle God’s Word.

2 Timothy 2:15-17 NIV…

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene.

The test to whether or not God approves

of how we use the Bible is Truth.

Psalms 119:160 NKJV…

The entirety of Your word is truth,

And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

There are two fathers of humanity.

John 8:44 NIV…

You belong to your father, the devil,

and you want to carry out your father's desire.

He was a murderer from the beginning,

not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.

When he lies, he speaks his native language,
for he is a liar and the father of lies.

The Father of Lies, the Devil, will try

to distort God, the Father’s, Words.

Our first reference to the Devil

is in the Garden of Eden

where Satan says to Eve…

"Did God really say?”

 Genesis 3:1

Remember Satan’s tempting of Jesus…

It was a battle of what God said.

Satan said one thing

and Jesus came back with

the truth of God’s Word.

Jesus knew the importance of communicating

the truth of our heavenly Father.

John 14:6-7 NIV…

"I am the way and the truth and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through me.

If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well.

From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

Satan questioned God’s Word before

the beginning of the world.

Many have questioned God’s Word by saying

everyone has their own interpretation.

But there is no private interpretation.

2 Peter 1:20-21 NIV…

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture

came about by the prophet's own interpretation.

For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man,

but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible was not written by the will of men…

But men spoke from God as they were

carried along by the Holy Spirit.

God’s Word is to be shared.

It is an honor to repeat

and give credit

to the One who spoke it.

But God’s Word must be rightly handled.

 2Timothy 2:15

God’s Word is to correct us.

 2Timothy 3:16

God’s Word is truth

and has the power to set us free.

Sanctify them by the truth;

your word is truth.

John 17:17

Jesus said,

"If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

John 8:31-32

There are many who have opinions

of what God said.

But for the person who seeks…

 The heart of the Author,

will find the truth and be set free.

Don’t be confused…

The Father of Lies will challenge the Word of God,

to confuse you and keep you from the truth.

But Jesus says you can know the truth

and be set free.

So the Bible is worthless if it can be

interpreted any way we want.

But if we seek to understand the intent

of the Author…

It has the most valuable words given to man…

Because His Word will always

guide you into all truth.

His Word will teach you how to live life right.

Life is short…

 So don’t get it wrong.

Scripture Reading

2 Timothy 2:14-17 NIV

14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene.

2 Timothy 3:14-17 NIV

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
