What is the take away -

Vomit is Gross - Stay Away From It

We live in a world where many people grow up

 without love and discipline.

Many children raise themselves.

The legalization of alcohol, now drugs in many states,

the message that sex with consent is ok

draw many youth into unproductive and damaging lives.

Children are growing up on social media.

They see things and hear things

no child should have to deal with.

Many children grow up in homes

where there are parents or parent,

where the child sees only how not to live.

  Over my years of pastoring,

I have seen many of these children,

who are now adults, struggling in life.

Many coming to the church for help.

The church was always willing to help.

We took people into our homes, fed them,

paid their bills, helped to give them skills,

as well, as moral and spiritual guidance.

The good news is many of them, who were

rescued, have broken the cycle of bondage

and are now productive people.

Many are raising healthy families.

But sadly, there are those who have received

lots of help and done well for a while

turned back to the life they once lived…

Maybe it was an old friend.

Maybe it was a crisis, like the loss of a loved one or job.

Maybe some other reason.

But they made a turn and returned to the old way of living.

The Bible gives us a vivid picture of this in Proverbs 26:11…

As a dog returns to its vomit,

so a fool repeats his folly.

Peter uses this proverb to show…

It is hard to get a second chance

after returning to the old way of life.

 Peter 2:17-22

Repentance builds trust.

When that trust is broken…

It can sometimes be impossible to regain.

It will take more time to see

if true repentance has taken place.

Words are a declaration of future action.

When you say you are sorry, you are saying

you will never do what you are sorry for again.

Repentance is more than words…

It is a change of life.

You and I cannot make someone repent.

Paul speaks to married couples a hard saying…

But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so.

A believing man or woman is not

bound in such circumstances;

God has called us to live in peace.

I Corinthians 7:15

Paul goes on to say…

How do you know, wife,

whether you will save your husband?

Or, how do you know, husband,

whether you will save your wife?

1 Corinthians 7:16

Although you can let the unbeliever go,

check yourself,

make sure you can’t do something that will help

the unbeliever come to the Truth and be saved.

What is the take away?

Vomit is gross, stay away from it.
