3 Steps to Living a Great Life
If you have any love for the New Testament,
you have a love for the Apostle Paul.
He is an incredible man.
And the letters he wrote are able
to feed a person for a lifetime.
We can read about his life story and
how he came to faith in Jesus Christ…
The events before persecuting the Christians,
the supernatural light that blinded him
and God stopping him in his tracks.
We can even read of the many churches
he planted and lives he touched.
Here in Romans 1:1, Paul gives us
three simple steps that shaped his life...
Three Steps that can make anyone successful.
Romans 1:1…
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an
apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—
The first step is be a servant…
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus.
The best person you can hire is not the
person with all the credentials, it is the servant.
Servants understand submission.
They understand considering others better than themself
and how to love others and they love themselves.
Paul uses a strong word for servant,
it is “doulos” in the Greek which means…
A bond servant or slave, involuntary or voluntary.
I believe the greatest quality you look for
as you are looking for a leader is servanthood.
Even Jesus Himself had the attitude of a servant…
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
Philippians 2:5-7
Think about the greatest people in your life,
they were great because they laid down their life for you.
It is easy to see when people are doing things
for the money or something other than serving.
Paul’s first step was being a servant of Jesus Christ,
and he never stopped taking that step,
he remained a servant to the end.
The second step came as a result of serving,
“The Call”…
Called to be an apostle.
You have read Jesus words…
So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
Matthew 20:16 KJV
Why are few chosen?
for I called but you did not answer,
I spoke but you did not listen.
You did evil in my sight
and chose what displeases me."
Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says:
"My servants will eat,
but you will go hungry;
my servants will drink,
but you will go thirsty;….
Isaiah 65:12-13
Servants answer the call and are taken care of.
When you are called, you are given a position.
When you are given a position,
vs taking a position…
You are supported by the one who called you.
Penta, a vocational school, now has
a sophomore class.
This class is designed for students to take a variety of classes
to help them decide what field they would like to continue in.
My grandson, Xander, is not sure what
he would like to do in the future,
so this first year at Penta,
will give him exposure to what
he might want to do after he graduates.
Our call is often like that.
While we are serving,
we find an area that is calling out to us,
something we find ourselves connecting to.
God wired you for that call.
The third step Paul speaks of is being set apart…
set apart for the gospel of God—
There is no place more comfortable
than the place you belong.
Being set apart is a place of security.
Paul knew the place he was put.
He knew his purpose.
His purpose was to share the gospel,
the Good News of God.
This third step of being set apart gives you ownership.
Paul not only preached the Gospel
of God but it became his own.
Romans 2:16, Romans 16:25, 2 Timothy 2:8
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead,
descended from David.
This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point
of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained.
2 Timothy 2:8-9
Steps 1 and 3 are the same
for you and I, as for Paul.
We are all called to be servants
and share the Gospel of Good News.
Step 2…
Not all of us are called to be an
Apostle, but all of us have a calling.
Your calling is more than a voice from heaven,
God wired you for your calling.
Like anything else it will need to be developed
but you will know inside of you
there is a connection to your calling because
God knew the need before you were born.
So, if you want to live a great life and
finish life well…
Keep life simple with these three steps all the days of your life.
Be a servant of Christ Jesus,
called to be an apostle and
set apart for the gospel of God.
These three steps worked for Paul
and they will work for you.
