Fruit of Repentance
Truth
It all starts with God’s Word
Remember Satan’s words to Eve “Did God really say?”
If you don’t know God’s Word, which is Truth, you can’t repent
You may be sorry and suffer from the consequences
But you will never be repentant until you know the Truth
Only the Truth can set you free
Recognize you can be deceived
Second, Confess your sin
Speak the same thing about your sin as God does
The third thing is “Research and Apply” God’s Word
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2
True repentance always transforms your life
When you renew your mind on the Truth of God’s Word
Truth
Repentance starts with Truth.
When we exchange the truth for a lie…
We need to repent.
It all started with deception.
Eve was deceived by the serpent.
Deception works because we either don’t
know the truth or our desires takes us off course.
Either way, the thoughts of our mind
begin to take us down a different path.
The fruit of the Tree of Knowledge has done very well
at reproducing, since Adam and Eve first took the first bite.
Sadly, we seem to love the taste of lies and deception.
In the days of Noah, before the flood, we read…
The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become,
and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. Genesis 6:5
The last verse of the Book of Judges we read…
In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.
Judges 21:25
Paul tells us in the first chapter of Romans
how wickedness has increased…
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts
Romans 1:24
The Book of Proverbs tells us…
There is a way that seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death.
Proverbs 16:25
But we don’t need the Bible to tell us that our
desires have given way to thoughts of wickedness.
Repentance starts with Truth.
We can only find Truth from the Tree of Life.
The Tree of Life is the soul and spirit of God.
Jesus said…
I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.
John 14:6
John writes to us and says…
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned,
we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
1 John 1:8-10
Can anyone say they are without sin?
Can anyone be so deceived?
The first step to Truth is to realize you can be deceived.
The second step is confession.
When John says…
If we confess our sins
The word ‘confess’ in the Greek comes from
a compound base of two Greek words…
The first is “at the same place or time (together)”
The second word means “something said”.
This word ‘confession’ means “to speak the same as”.
To reason, to speak, to relate to our sin as God does.
God’s Word has to have a place in our lives.
1 John 1:10
Deception works because we either don’t know the Truth
or our desires takes us off course.
Repentance starts with Truth.
When we exchange the lie for Truth…
We have repented.
It all starts with God’s Word.
Remember Satan’s words to Eve…
“Did God really say?”
If you don’t know God’s Word,
which is Truth, you can’t repent.
You may be sorry and suffer from the consequences.

Scripture Reading
Romans 12:1-2 NIV
12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Ephesians 4:20-24 NIV
20 You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. 21 Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
