Word For Today Your Words

Word For Today
Your Words

The average person giving a speech speaks 125 to 150 words per minute
So a person speaking for two minutes is equal to one typed page
Now what if you had to pay for each word
If one word costs 5 cents, 300 words would cost $15
$15 per 2 minutes of speaking
If we had to pay for our words we would choose our words more wisely
So as you and I consider the Word for Today
Consider the cost to you and to others because your words make a difference
Don’t leave others having to pay for a dumpster to get rid of worthless words
Leave them with words that will add value to their lives

Your Words

Words, how many words
do you speak in a day?

Let’s say all your words were typed
out on 8.5 by 11 sheets of paper.

Each page would be 250 to 300 words.

Or, consider the average person giving a
speech, speaks 125 to 150 words per minute.

So a person speaking for two
minutes is equal to one typed page.

Now what if you had to pay for each word.

If one word costs 5 cents,
300 words would cost $15…

$15 per 2 minutes of speaking.

If we had to pay for our words, we
would choose our words more wisely.

We would use less filler words.

We would use the words
“and”, “so”, “but” less often.

We would be forced to think about each
word even if each word only costs 5 cents.

Words have value.

In the beginning, God with just a few
words created the land and the seas, the
birds and the fish, the light and the night.

Words have a creative power
to change the world God created.

Words are powerful…

They can heal or they can hurt.

There are no idle words…

 They all have some effect,
if nothing more than waste time.

Let’s turn the table around.

What if you had to pay 5 cents
for every word you heard today.

Would those words bankrupt
you or add value to you?

Putting a currency value to our words
would make us think of how to use our words.

The other day I bought several
items on an on line auction.

When I went to pick up my items,
I found the shelves I purchased were
missing lots of parts and was told one of
my items was on the other side of town and
had to make specials arrangement to pick it up.

I have worked with this auctioneer for many
years and knew I would see this person soon.

I keep thinking in my head how can I tell this
person about the inconvenience and cost to me.

After much thought I asked myself the
question, who would my words help?

I realized they would only make me feel
better and the other person feel bad.

So I chose to say nothing and move on.

Maybe we should start to budget our words
based upon who is going to feel better,
us or the person we are speaking to.

Maybe I should consider others
who have to pay for the words I speak.

They will carry the effects of what I say.

So as you and I consider the Word for Today…

Consider the cost to you and to others
because your words make a difference.

Don’t leave others having to pay for a
dumpster to get rid of worthless words.

Leave them with words that
will add value to their lives.

Scripture Reading
NIV

Proverbs 18:4
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters,
but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.

Proverbs 17:27-28
27 A man of knowledge uses words with restraint,
and a man of understanding is even-tempered.

28 Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent,
and discerning if he holds his tongue.
