Word For Today
Giving a Today Word
Be a wise person with
words not of flattery but encouragement
Build confidence by
giving people a Word for the Day
A Word that will help
them to do greater things
A Word that will help
them know you believe in them
Even when they may
not believe in themselves
Giving a Today Word
What makes great men and women?
Who are people you have
come to love and respect?
For me those people are the ones who
have spoken encouraging words to me.
They are people who take interest in others.
People who always seem to have a smile.
They are men and women
who make you feel like they care.
If you have ever spoken to a person
and they said, “You
made my day”.
You know what a great feeling that is.
Making someone’s day is a great thing.
When I am on the phone talking to someone
at a bank or a utilities company, someone
who will say at the end of the conversation…
“Is there anything else I can help you with?”
I have gotten in the practice of replying…
“Promise me you will have a great day.”
They generally are caught off guard
because they have just spoken words
that they say to every caller,
the same thing over and over again.
They were talking to me because I called
for help and I turned the conversation around
by expressing I want them to have a great day.
Every time I get this opportunity,
the person on the other end of the line
responds in a way of great appreciation.
Their comments that follow come
with surprise and appreciation.
When we take the time to speak encouragement
or blessing, we are changing that person’s day.
When you say to
someone…
“It is so good to see you”.
You change that person’s day.
Giving a person a word for the
day does not have to be lengthy.
It just has to be sincere.
I love to meet children with a Biblical name.
I tell them what a great name they
have and why and how I believe they
will be like that Biblical person.
I often stop people with a smile
and tell them how great a smile they
have and the powerful gift a smile is.
I was not always this way.
I used to have a more
critical spirit.
It seemed I naturally saw the negative
in people and could not get past it.
But look at Jesus, He was liked by the
tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners.
Why? Because He saw a
positive future
and pointed out the goodness of God.
Remember…
“It is the goodness or kindness of
God that leads us to
repentance.”
Romans 2:4
Proverbs 16:23, 24 says…
A wise man's heart
guides his mouth,
and his lips promote
instruction.
Pleasant words are a
honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and
healing to the bones.
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb.
Wise people have
sweetness in
their heart that guides their mouth.
When the wise person speaks, their instruction
comes like an invitation to greatness.
The person that is weak and
lacks strength to do good things,
lacks strength to do good things,
are healed by the words of the wise.
Most of us know what we can’t do and
too few of us know what we can do.
They say…
“You won’t know how to do
something until you do
it.”
Or…
You don’t know what
you are capable of
until you put yourself
in a position to do
something you have
never done before.
All of us are capable of doing great things but
fear of not knowing how, keeps us from trying.
That is why the wise person gives
encouragement with instruction.
Confidence has to be built before we try.
The Bible says…
“But encourage one another daily,
as long as it is
called Today,
so that none of you
may be
hardened by sin's
deceitfulness.”
Hebrews 3:13
Be a wise person with words
not of flattery, but encouragement.
Build confidence by giving
people a Word for the Day.
A Word that will help
them to do greater things.
A Word that will help them know
you believe in them even when
they may not believe in themselves.
